TV Licence Super Thread

I don't pay the tv license fee. I rarely watch live tv. Sure, I've probably turned on BBC from time to time but it's their own fault for not putting it behind some kind of pay wall. Would Sky ever think about showing the latest Anthony Joshua PPV fight without it being behind a pay wall? Not a chance. They know what would happen.

how is BBC comparable to street light? what next compare them to the fire service and NHS?

Yes, that's my point exactly. You can't compare Netflix to any public service because Netflix doesn't serve the public, it serves its shareholders. The BBC is clearly unique and the comparison to a local amenity is much more accurate than a comparison to Netflix or Amazon.

Has anybody ever actually had an "enforcement officer" come to their house?
yup.

Very unpleasant experience. Rude, aggressive, tried to twist my words, had to be asked multiple times to leave the property.

Just Google conviction rates. They like to target the elderly and women.

Seems the best tatic to deal with them is to not say a word and just film them on your phone or just close the door.

Amazon is far closer as a comparison to a local amenity then BBC. The BBC might be unique but not in a good way. Its unique in an outdated absolute way. The other comparisons you used are essential services hence why they are not optional. BBC is not essential and is getting more outdated and obsolete by the year which why it should be optional. As an amenity Amazon is a good decade ahead of BBC.

What on earth are you talking about, Amazon is not publicly funded and is not a public service. Plus, you might think that a local authority leisure centre is an essential service (I know I do, too) but there are others who don't use it, won't use it and therefore don't want to pay for it via taxation.

That's the point.

An amenity is not a public service. Amazon is a far better and a more modern amenity then the BBC. As a public service goes neither Amazon or the BBC are a public service. I know BBC like to brand themselves as a public service but they stopped being that over a decade ago. They are not even impartial or anything special as a new source anymore. The BBC is just an old fashioned service that is no longer relevant and should be optional. In a comparison to local amenities I would pick Amazon massively over the BBC.

There's no reasoning with that, Trump level denialism. So, I'll leave you to your echo chamber. ;)
Only there is reasoning with that as there is valid logic and reasoning behind it. The thing is if you look at this thread objectively the Trump level denialism and eco chamber nonsense are coming from people like you and those on your side of the debate. Our side for the most part are the ones tying to engage with reasoning and logic behind our stance as well as intelligent debate.

Not had a licence for about 3 years now, no one has visited. I think they target people in flats and council houses as they cant be bounced off the property.

I had an inspector round once, he asked if he could pop in I said yeah sure. He then said he has no need its fine. Clearly one of the better one out there. I didnt have a TVL as I dont watch broadcast TV etc. Still dont as I just use Prime, Netflix, Disney and YT

Kids were in bed and had a few friends round so no chance of any issues from him at that time. He was a sound bloke to be honest.

Another waste of licence fee money. "Here's £300 each. Go buy some tat and waste as much of that money as you can. We'll write it off as entertainment. Don't worry, it's free money."
next you'll be against songs of praise, the sheep herding show with dogs and all the other amazing BBC shows we wouldn't find on any other channel such as dancing on ice and east enders
