I don't think laws are supposed to be interpreted according to what we feel we're happy to agree with.

Like saying, "It's not really speeding as I don't consider this a 40mph road, it's a 60 all day long".
it's more akin to trying to suggest there should be a speed limit on your drive way or a private road on your country estate, a track day or whatever

Tvl pre-dates stuff like Twitch and twitch isn't really like watching TV to me. I don't use it anyway so whatever on my end I suppose.

If they change the law to include regular YouTube will you be willing to pay it? I wouldn't be happy doing so.

Not saying I am definitely right btw but this article seems to back up what I am saying:

It's been found that most drivers will drive along roads at what they believe is a speed suitable for the road. When there's a 30 limit on a dual carriageway with divider most will ignore it because it feels wholly inappropriate for the road.

Yet they are

Or its like saying "well its not really vandalism or criminal damage because we don't like the person who's windows you broke" and they'd be right.

Whatever bbc say I'd have a hard time buying into twitch streaming being considered live tv for the purposes of licensing, it's not even their platform and they have nothing to do with it.

There are plenty of channels / streaming platforms that have naff all to do with the BBC, but if they're showing live content you still have to pay for a licence. Do I agree with it? Hell no! I think the BBC is a complete waste of money and don't see why the general public should have to pay anything when they're not watching BBC specific content.

The article I linked above suggests that it's more for anything showing live TV elsewhere, not for something like Twitch streams. Twitch is not a television service and they don't simulcast to live television or anything.

The article mentions programmes, a Twitch stream is not a programme I think.

Sorry if I'm confusing the issue. I wasn't talking about Twitch. YouTube however does stream live TV, so if you're watching that you do require a TV licence, as noted on the TV Licencing page.

Yeah which is rubbish, it's a BBC TV licence.

When the BBC gets all the monies and nothing is spent on anyone else then that is what it is. It's a BBC licence with a different name. 86% goes into BBC coffers with the government skimming the rest.

The fact they say you need a licence if for instance you watched live TV from say Portugal or Spain or whatever says enough about how it's all about maximising profit and requires to purchase and not what it should be.

What right or reason is there for the government/BBC to charge someone in the UK to watch live Portuguese TV through YT?

Only if you are watching a YouTube live TV Broadcast channel like Skynews. You don't need a TV License if you watch YouTube or watch something like a YouTube live gaming stream. Same for Amazon you only need a TV License if you watch the live broadcast channels otherwise Amazon is fine without a TV License.

i phoned up and cancelled mine yesterday, was really simple and no grief , think they are getting used to the amount of people cancelling, times have changed and peoples habits have changed, BBC isn't moving with the times and it will come back and bite them at some point

ive noticed now they even going to want you to register to use the BBC news app on my phone, so uninstalled it
