wasn't the explanation I had expected, had thought he would be concerned about piracy on bbc platform ... but after last years (too limited/meager) glastonbury coverage they might as well abandon it, or have payg,
Olympics coverage was poor sport for all the highest bidder

Young, 79, may have forgotten, but the last time he played Glastonbury, in 2009, he was at daggers drawn over how much of his Pyramid Stage headline set would be allowed to be broadcast. After much to-ing and fro-ing, he eventually let five songs be aired, because he “believes in the live event and retaining its mystery”. Young did not seem to care that it deprived his millions of fans unable to get a ticket to the annual jamboree the opportunity to see him.

I had one the other day addressed to the occupier in a special Christmas red envelope lol

That's disgraceful, really.

I would dearly love to know why successive governments just sit on their hands about all this. It is just pure stupidity to allow this situation to continue. It is blatantly obvious to anyone, apparently other than a politician, that the system is broken.

Probably because if they addressed the licensing fee itself, they'd have to address where else the BBC can get funding from.

Government already pulled support for pensioners and left it up to the BBC to handle.

Right now it's up to the BBC to handle the fee and collection etc, which is then outsourced to Capita anyway.

We had a visit in a shared student house, I imagine they target known student areas and HMOs as another high success rate.

One of our housemates actually let the guy in to our house, prompting a brief panic to relocate the TV into the garden under a sheet whilst another housemate was telling him to leave and his invitation to enter had been withdrawn :p

I think someone bought a licence the next day and added it to the shared bills pool!
They should just make students exempt. Why do students need the hassle and stress and cost of TV license, it's only for a few years of their life too.

It's one of the contributing reasons I finally cancelled mine. We barely watched any live TV or used iPlayer. But I was mistakenly under the impression our licence also covered our daughter at Uni in case she wanted to watch something. For some reason I thought that used to be the case. But when I realised it didn't cover her it made even less sense for me to buy a licence for home.

I think it used to be covered on the 'battery powered' devices clause, back when a portable battery TV used to be a thing

It's been another year and I won't be purchasing a TV license this time around. I haven't watched live TV for about 5 years and haven't needed iplayer for a while. I can live without BBC News and Weather websites/apps if they require log ins. I'll use the opt out form and the shut door in face method.

Had a letter drop through sometime just before Christmas and another just after New Years, both addressed to the previous occupier. Not known at this address was scrawled on them and back into the post they went.

I bet they move it to general taxation, as the government is more interested in getting as much money as possible.
