TV Licence Super Thread

Yeah, pretty clear cut.

I'm of the opinion that, if you honestly don't watch live tv or iPlayer, then you've got nothing to worry about.

If you do watch live TV/iPlayer, either get a licence or be under the assumption that at some point you've got the potential to get caught. I'm not saying that you will (in all likeliness, you won't), but there's always the possibility.

In the grand scheme of things, I don't mind paying it, myself. I watch BBC news every morning when I get up and watch the F1 on the weekends when it's listed...

i'm just gonna stick a chromecast/nvidia sheild (when i get a 4k tv) in the telly and not bother even getting an ariel installed

Wall of text when all you have to do is two things.

1. Let them know you don't watch live TV by the official means
2. Deny them right of access to your home

Both take minutes.. cant believe people make it so hard and cry like babies.. modern day warriors

Didn't read the OP but, you don't need a licence to listen to the radio.

Never said you did, but it certainly funds it and I listen to '5 Live' and '6 Music' a lot in the car.

People who think it's a waste of money baffle me. The BBC is one of the best things to come out of this Country in the 20th century.

They are now at the forefront of developing 4k HDR broadcast TV in this country (Hybrid Log Gamma) and have recently suggested that they might do a Netflix style iPlayer service that lets you watch TV shows as and when they are available instead of having to wait for them to air on TV.

Excellent OP, amazing copy and paste job, bit long to be a one liner though......

Although I watch little from the beeb, its worth it for the other services I enjoy like BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 5 Live and the BBC Sport App and website.

Then you get the odd gem like Planet Earth series and Happy Valley.

My kids watch CBeebies all the time, much more than the premium paid-for kids tv channels. I also listen to lots of BBC podcasts and watch the occasional Doctor Who/Sherlock type program.

Not bad for what it costs.

I agree,

Also

The advertising on the commercial channels has gone nuts in recent years.

"Old" shows like Star Trek (TOS) seem to run to nearly 50 minutes/hour

More recent shows (I recently watched all the old "X files") run to 44/45 Minutes/Hour

But I have seen some recent shows that run to under 40 (I think it was 37/38)

Its bonkers, Commercial shows are almost unwatchable now, especially the half hour slots

Fortunately, My Humax satellite box seems to allow me to watch shows minus the adds. Unfortunately, my BT-TV box does not, so I dont use it that much any more (I only have the basic BT-TV so I dont pay anything for it. I have the box because of Grandfather rights)

Long may the BBC continue!

Not sure what your point is but you still need a licence if you stream live TV.

I just wish the BBC would be forced to switch to an encrypted subscription service and/or use advertising.

why on earth would i stream live tv?

seems to defeatthe purpose of streaming.

my point was simply that the tv license people hjave started investigating my house before the council have even been aware.

as its a new house i dont think ill bother with an areil
