Think about what exactly? You seem to be quite happy to reply to this thread yet you do so without adding any further clarification. I'm hardly the only one to have pointed out that they're not sure what exactly you're asking?

it boils down three letters dowie W H Y. what further clarification? what do you want a essay on a one sentence question.
like i mentioned before if woden or the other posters cannot address the question, asked it themselves or even understand it then fine accept it as it is. :)

Well what exactly is it that you're asking? Given the previous replies explaining what an act of parliament is and that law includes both statute and common law?

how many times! all them previous reply's do not address WHY dowie you are like a dog with a bone :p
 
Getting divorced myself and will be hoping to buy a property and i for one will not be getting a TV licence as i dont watch TV! I am guessing i will get a mountain of threats then from the licensing morons?

You'll get one letter a month increasing in threat level, then once in a blue moon they'll send a muppet round to your house insisting to come in and check your TV, they'll also want your name so they can personalise all these threats.

Tell them nothing and say "Not today, I'm busy" and shut the door. Although it's incredibly rare you'll EVER get a visit.

you're just giving non-answers now - I'm more than prepared to engage in discussion with you but if you're not prepared to even explain what you're asking then it is rather pointless... repeatedly giving these non-answers does seem like trolling to me

Can you, without referencing anything else, succinctly repeat the question you are asking?

Would I be right in thinking it is this: "Why are acts called acts and not called laws?"

If it is, then the answer is simple: they are called laws, by pretty much everyone.

"You have the right to remain silent". The one natural born right that can't be forcibly taken away from you, and sadly the only one that no body ever uses.
In other words, just ignore them completely and don't tell them you live there.

Or, you can be a good little slave and fill in the form on their website every 2 years to declare you don't watch live broadcasts.

Firstly, you missed the other part of the caution ‘You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when questioned something which you later rely on in court. Anything you do say may be given in evidence.’ So staying silent isn't always the best course of action.

For reference, you don't always have a right to silence. Terrorism offences are an example of this as you don't get the above caution as you are obliged to answer questions when asked.

I see it as pragmatic, taking 2 minutes to do an online form probably breaks even just on putting any envelopes in the bin let alone having to open the door with someone from TV licensing there. I want to waste as little of my time as possible on this and doing the online declaration is the best way to do that.

Filling out that declaration form was a big mistake for me. I would have been better off ignoring them and binning the letters. If you want to waste as a little times as possible I wouldn't fill out that form based on experience.

Yea, the form can just bring on more unwanted attention from them. Sometimes it's better to say nothing and don't respond to anything.

Its not a conspiracy just look at what happened to me and others when we correctly filled out the form and then had nothing but problems. They then used that those details for personal threats.

Your experience may vary, but mine is that I filled the declaration and have heard nothing since. At a guess, I would suggest my experience is probably more representative.
 
Our letters have started having our names on after 10 years, rather than "The Homeowner"

Electoral Roll do we think?
 
Probably part of the reason it's now law to be on the electoral roll :/

That and they most likely profit from selling on our details...

Same as, told them, no hassles at all, a single visit over the years by a punctual friendly guy. No follow up letters to check whether we need a licence in probably two years now.
