TV Licence Super Thread

In the letter's letterhead, there is a code. Stick that into Google, and you'll see results where TV licensing will send you standard letters and each one is more threatening than the previous. If you ignore them, they'll cycle through the letterhead codes and eventually loop back to the original letter/code. They all go in the bin, as for me, TV programming died in the early 2000s. I find Youtube is more relevant and more a personal experience tbh.

why doesn't one of you two just email the tv license people and ask if you need a license for twitch streams?

seriously

They'll probably reply saying, "yes you need a licence". They're banking on it not being tested in court.

Ignore it.

They can't ask you to provide evidence that you didn't do something. It's on them to prove you did, which they won't be able to.

Only if said random broadcast is live TV that you could tune into through a regular TV platform.

Well no. Take a look at the UK Column example above. It's just a YouTube stream and TV licencing have confirmed you need a TV license for it.

I cannot believe they are actually getting away with needing "TV" licence for random independent streaming. Utterly insane. This is just astonishingly ridiculous.

We already have to pay openreach to manage the UK's internet, so we can stream things,
We pay TVL so they can run some freeview transmitters so we can tune using an antenna.
But now we have to pay TVL for streaming on internet even though they have sweet **** all to do with the internet.

Doesn't anyone else see how utterly ridiculous this money milking exercise is?
I'm truly astonished that this is actual reality lol.

.
its BS you do not need a license for such stuff, it is not hard.

But when you operate a system like that you end up with tripe like Fifth Gear instead of Top Gear.
No you end up with Grand Tour which is better and doesn’t need a TV licence to watch.

EDIT: Update: I am in shock after going down the complaints route with BBC they have stopped bombarding me with threats, letters and constant inspectors.

Well that was certainly worth resurrecting a 7 year old thread for.

No it wasn't, it was meant to be in the BBC super licence thread. This thread was the first one to show up on page 1 and seeing Aug I thought it was the right one without looking at the year. Cannot even see the other one now, what happened to it?

Amazon subscribe channels how are you meant to tell which channels need a TV licence and which are ok without one. Do we really have to go online and search on every individual channel? There has to be a better way when streaming to a Fire TV.

it's simple, is it live(ie being streamed at the same time as on normal tv) and are those channels included on freeview/sky/virgin.

What about the email from TV licencing that specifically states you do?

You just can't concede can you? You have to argue to the end even when you aren't right or it's ambiguous.

I gave up arguing with you, believe what you want, but you are wrong. You couldn't even be bothered reading the law.

You mean the email a) you have no idea of it's authenticity b) from a minimum wage customer service who won't have a clue.

It doesn't seem simple to me. How would I know if its live before paying as nowhere that I have spotted so far lists what’s live and what isn’t. As for freeview/sky/virgin as I don’t use them I have no idea which channels are on those off the top of my head. Surly there is a better way than having to look up each channel one at a time.

In my house hold the following might be of interest. Discovery, Horse & Country, ITV Hub+, Planet Knowledge & Love Nature.

EDIT: Also what about when part of the channel is live and part ondemand. can you just not watch the live bit, subscribe and watch the demand bit?

come on even if you don't watch tv, you should have a general knowledge of what channels are available on tv, failing that just look at a tv guide.
and no there isn't a better way. Tv license does not like making it easy for us. There revamped website is more ambigouse than the one it replaced several years ago, that is on purpose.
most things on Amazon channels are not live.
and you don't need to pay to see, look at itv hub for example the only one which is live says so, however you can still happily watch all the other Itv stuff without a license as its not live.

Amazon Channels

Watch Live

same goes for discovery, most content is on demand but again

Watch Live

same for horse and country

Watch Live

Planet Knowledge does not have a live segement on amazon channel, however if there was it would be subject to tv license as its available on freeview

Now you're responding to something I didn't say. I haven't been arguing with you. Are you even keeping track of who you're responding to?

You can't even be bothered to keep tracking of who you're replying to, but have the cheek to claim I can't be bothered reading the law. What a joke, but you've just proven my point. In your desperate need to be right at all costs, you ignore everything that doesn't align with what you want to think.
