Two match ban for swearing!

Well this is the thing, swearing IS part of EVERYONES normal language, pretending it isn't is entirely daft.

But "******* come on" and "**** YOU" are in an entirely different spirit to each other so lets not prented they are the same.

Its like saying "I could KILL....... a burger", or "I'm going to KILL..... YOU", one is a threat, with intent, and dodgey, one is a common expression and you can't even pretend it had any bad intent associated with it.

I still don't think Rooney should have been banned for swearing, ref's do it, players do it, linesmen and managers do it, fans do it, commentators slip out the odd clanger, the Queen probably yells at Philip with bad language every now and then.

The whole lip-reading vs into the camera thing doesn't hold water for me. Are we policing football, in which case all cases like this should be penalised just as heavily wherever they happen on the police, or penalising players who are CAUGHT swearing on television? The two are very different, and imo one should be policed by the FA, the other by BBC/Sky.

Punish Rooney for stupid elbow, for a bad attitude, for often kicking out when frustrated, he needs to be taught to curb his temper because it will cost Utd, and England at a crucial moment some day.

Also agree that just like Eduardo, you can't punish one player for something everyone in the league does, then forget about it and let everyone else get away with it again.

Lastly, the FA should start handing out red cards for kissing the camera after scoring, its cringeworthy, embarassing and should not be allowed to continue!

What I'm saying is, we see players swearing filmed up close all the time '****ing come on!' and we also see players shouting '**** off ref, that was never a full, you're a ****ing c-word' and neither of those have been clamped down on in the past.

Rooney has a disgusting attitude, don't get me wrong, I just feel this isn't how these things are usually handled by the FA.

The lip-reading argument doesn't hold water for me because the argument to me is policing what happens on the pitch. If a player swears anywhere on the pitch it should be handled the same. If he's being penalised for swearing on camera that's another thing. One should be penalised by the FA, the other by BBC/Sky.

FFS.

Like I said before he went to celebrate with the fans and his team mates, the cameraman goes up to the touchline to stick the camera in his face, he then shouts "What, what" as if the cameraman has asked him something then he shouts "**** off"

The camera was directly at him for a good few seconds before his rant.

Watch what he does when the rest of his team-mates jog back to their half.

He continues to make a beeline to look directly into the camera and swear.

The blokes just scored a hat trick and pulled his team out the crap, adrenaline is high and he's a chav from an estate.

I love how Harry is getting involved as well, I remember Harry telling a Sky reporter to **** off when he called him a wheeler dealer, should Harry be banned as well?

Well at least we agree on something. :p

Harry is certainly no angel and really can't preach on this matter one single bit.

After he has been asked an utterly stupid question by the cameraman.

I'm not condoning what he's done but I can certainly understand why he did it given the circumstances. We are going off topic with the why, hows and when's but at the end of the day he may well be given a suspension for swearing on a football pitch and that at the end of the day is comical no matter what team you support or how much you hate Man Utd.

Not a fact.

Comical only if it was NOT directly at camera and said multiple times into it, then yes.

But in this case, it's not comical and the FA were right to act.

some of the comments on here make me laugh!

At the end of the day there is no excuse to swear down a camera when every player knows that children are watching , even adults dont want to hear a load of abuse at home in there living room.

As for the camera man , putting the camera in someones face ? , he was just close up to the celebration , surely footbal players are used to having cameras in there face!

I'd hazard a guess that 99% of people watching football would swap their view in their living room to be in the stadium itself where there's a lot worse chanted than what Rooney said.

That aside what about the countless number of times where the camera catches players telling the ref to **** off, or the countless times the camera catches fans waving gestures to opposing players?

The argument that he shouldn't of done it because kids could have been watching doesn't wash because if parents lets their children watch football they're exposed to expletives in every single game.

The FA are just making an example out of United yet again and anyone that cant see that is just blinded by their hate of the club.

Tin foil hat reply if ever I saw one.

How many times! You can't compare shouting directly down a camera on pitch level with lip reading.

It's not because the FA "hate" United, they just get punished for being guilty.

Don't give the FA ammo and you'll be fine.

Can't believe people are trying to defend Rooney! Fair enough blame the FA for inconsistency, but Rooney deserves everything he gets, he brings every problem upon himself by being too horrible/thick to act like a normal human, he doesn't think he has a responsibility to the TV companies/parents/fans that pay his wages and his head is so far up his arse that it's the norm for him to swear into cameras, or to threaten to leave just so he can rip Man Utd out of unholy sums of money, or to shag whores when his wife is carrying his child. He needs to grow the **** up

Also it's amazing that people can't differentiate between swearing on the pitch and running up to the camera and swearing directly to millions of viewers for absolutely no reason.

The FA make a rod for their own back with inconsistent standards and degree's of punishment. It's horribly ran, I do hope that at some point in my life they sort it out, it's been shambolic for a very long time.

I can't be drawn in to the arguement, I'm happy to watch G|mp win :p

the only bit i'd disagree with is that he didn't actually run up to the camera, the cameraman was just doing his job by being where he needed to be, the cameraman only films, the director chooses the shot. i doubt very much that cameraman asked him to 'kiss the camera' but even if he did, it's not something that deserves that kind of reaction, he should have been smiling if anything but he is obviously going through some mental stress and needs a bit of help elst he could quite easily go AWOL.

I thought it was clearly directed to the people watching at home, not the man behind the camera

and this where the confusion lies. if rooney was aiming it at the cameraman then i suppose it wouldn't be out of the ordinary to look down at the lense as the cameraman would obviously get the message, however, it would make more sense for rooney to have walked behind the cameraman, getting off film (if you like) and confronting him on a more personal level, couple this with the fact that the cameraman didn't seem threatened (there are photos of the incident, the cameraman remains in his filming posture with a little smile on his face) it's not hard to see where the confusion lies in just who exactly rooney was telling to 'f off'

Would Rooney really go absent without leave  :D

I hope he was telling everyone to **** off, siege mentality, **** you all.

"Cuz we're Man United, we'll do what we want"

He should've been banned long ago for the verbal abuse he gives to refs. I'd get sent off every game at amateur level if I behaved like that.

I didn't even notice he swore, but a two match ban for over-excitement?

He didn't get a two match ban for over-excitement, he got a two match ban for swearing down a camera.

A leg-breaking challenge is 'over-excitement', doesn't mean the ban would be for over-excitement.

Perfectly valid ban, the guy is a nasty thug and an all-round disgusting human being. I'd throw random bans at him just for that.

Have you met him?

Seems somewhat arbitrary to call someone a disgusting human being simply because he plays for a rival team, or that he uses profanity on occasion.

What was the stupid question?

I can't be arsed to go round in circles Purdy, we have all put our point across, what's the point in continuing the argument?

Some of Rooney's behaviour reminds me a bit of a guy I know who suffers from ADHD, obviously I'm no doctor but some of the daft things he does without seemingly thinking are similar if only mildly in Rooney's case.
