Type R and VTEC owners

Been quoted £600 to replace my timing chain. Anyone had this done?, will also double check what Honda will charge to do it, but expect many more £££

It's about the right price from an independent I guess. Honda prices would be closer to the £1k mark.

Why is yours damaged?

Apparently it's "on the edge", the engine management light can stay off for a few days but will then come on again with the same error code.

TDI North say it's 99% the timing chain has stretched and have seen it a number of times. Their going to check it first.

Ah, fair enough. Sorry to hear!

I go away for one day and I once again return to this thread in carnage.

BTW I put some Nankangs on my F458 and they're superb.

/bait.

I would say, from memory, that the RE050A is a more sport orientate tyre and the RE002A is more orientated at day to day driving but works really well when pushed.

They are good, wouldn't be fitted to supercars out of the factory if they weren't. I still maintain that unless you're running a high grade tyre such as AD08 then Bridgestones are best suited to Type R's.

If I've not found another type r, I'll probably come take a look! Most ATR's look tired I've seen, decent DC2's are over priced, most EP3s are chavved and lack an lsd.

Need some vtec in my life!

Same sort of reasons I went for it. Just give me a trust message if you want to arrange something. Car will be around Gloucester Mon - Fri and in Watford at weekends.

I keep looking at AD08 but am assuming that [AD08+Trackdays=Baffledsump]
am I wrong [MilanoChris or anyone else?]

I wouldn't say essential like it would be with semi slicks but definitely a good idea to start thinking about it, especially if you're going to be doing a few track days regardless of the tyres fitted. One or two a year and you should be fine though.

They are fine in the wet. Just drive to the conditions. There's a reason Honda put RE050A's and Bridgestones on their cars, the sidewall is well suited to Type R's.

Nath, sorry to see that. Not nice at all. I know what it feels like, some **** put a brick through the rear window on my DC5 on Christmas Eve a few years ago.

None that I'm aware off, all rumours seem to focus on S2000 or NSX and of course the new Civic Type R. I'd love to see a new Integra myself, I just don't see it happening when they can just mass produce the Civic.

Depends on what Honda decide to do, especially with the Civic. They seem hell bent on making it the fastest FWD car round the 'Ring which should mean whatever they put on sale should be pretty interesting. How that would end up as a drivers car on the road remains to be seen though.

So yeah. I was all set on an Evo. Then it had to happen, didn't it. At my new place of work there's a CW FD2 in the car park. Raging dilemma!
