Type R and VTEC owners

Milano chris has linked to the Nanodrive stuff.
I have linked the oil which is in my Evo and according to the spec on the page it meets the following:

API: SM, CF
ACEA: A3 / B4

I asked the retailer that I bought it from and he linked me to the page above asking what I was talking about.:D He is under the impression that oil cannot be sold unless it meets some of those specs. He's from GB Enterprises.

As above, I'm not trying to be a pain. I just want to ensure that I am running the correct oil for my car, however I do admit that I find it frustrating that Simon cannot allude to which oils to use. Nevertheless I understand his reasons as has been posted in this thread and I think I can read between the lines.

It does raise interesting questions, do manufacturers use certain oils (that meet specifications) because of cost based reasons or because of longevity and/or performance reasons? I'm guessing that those know can't divulge this information based on disclosure agreements etc.

I guess what I am getting at personally is if I can run an oil that is half the price of what I am currently using then I'm all ears. The reason why these oils mentioned sold by the likes of Opie Oils and GB Enterprises are raved about on forums are because they are marketed well by the retailers on said forums. Does someone that posts 'this oil is great' base that post on oil usage and the fact that their engine hasn't gone bang since it was put in? Probably. Does this mean the oil marketed is bad for our performance cars? Probably not. Does this mean that there may be oils out there that are theoretically better and cheaper? Well, this is what I'd like to know, by someone know knows rather than someone on a forum that put it in his EP3 and feels the need to say 'yeah bruv it's an ace oil, nice packaging'.

Rant? I don't think so, just felt I'd elaborate what I've been thinking about.

The manual says 15W40 for -15 or so and upwards conforming to ACEA A1, A2 or A3 and API SG.

Not sure what is on the label as I don't think any was left after the service, I will check the garage tomorrow though.

I put this in the Focus:

This stuff then for the Evo?

Almost half the price of Millers. Though 4 litres, crafty buggers.

Sending them a text/call saying "would you take £5k mate" is not being serious. Go out and view, seller get excited that he is going to see a wad of cash, makes it easy work :p

Exactly this. I ignore these texts and emails now, I find it plain rude to offer less than asking price without viewing a car.

Fair enough. I guess since I drove to Exeter and didn't buy the car I went to look at I cba as much.

I can't say I care much for your feelings. I want to buy your car, not make friends.

Edit, plus he's overpriced it, as mentioned above. If you're over pricing your car, be prepared to be upset.

It's got your interest and you're several hours away. What it's worth is what someone pays for it, pretty sure the dealer will have done his homework on the market and the complete lack of well looked after standard S2000's around.

I'd have the Apexi Hayabusa. Best exhaust I had on any of my Type R's, but super rare. The T1R 63mm system on my DC5 was cracking as well.

Looked at getting an FD2 the other day. Saw the price. Laughed. Then looked at more sensibly priced cars.

£15k+ for a 7 year old Civic. **** off.

Yeah but JDM or something. Interestingly, I know of two people who left Honda, went and got an Evo and the other a scooby and then both ended up back in an FD2. The justification for the Evo was the fun wasn't there to justify the price of running and the Scoob something similar.
Would you not buy a R34 GTR based on the age and price either given the funds?

I wouldn't want an R34 GTR.

A lot of folk have gone from an Evo to a R3x GTR and then back again. They're not for everyone and from what I've read I don't think they'd be for me.

I love my Evo, one of the best cars I've owned. Only reason I'd go back to a Honda is if I wanted to save money.

You've got epic brakes, excuse invalid. :p

Will you be going again next May Chris? You'll be under 3m for sure with another visit. :D
As I want to do Spa badly so thinking of making sure I am on the trip next May with some of the M3 guys or if your planning a re-visit would come along with you, makes sense a few of us go just in case a car breaks or crashes. :)

I take it you didn't see my rear brakes? They were metal by the end of the day, so I had very little rear braking throughout the day. The pedal feel wasn't nice at all hence lift and coast and early braking a lot of the time.

Which track day? I may be starting a new job so timings may be tricky.

Was going to say similar Gibbo. The Evo is fast no doubt but it is being driven is a very point and squirt way. The corners are pretty sedate in the video

That's probably my driving, I'm not very quick. :D
