Type R and VTEC owners

RRC fitted... very happy with it! Just need the exhaust manifold and race CAT installing now along with a MAP and Im going to call it done.

Need to save for a house... :/

What's an RRC?

What numbers are you expecting?

Intake manifold. Not expecting big gains as its not mapped but some testing on the Civic Si over in the US shows that upgrading from the RSP (similar to stock on the Si and the model used on the euro FN2) added "quote from review site" 7. RRC MANIFOLD +14.5HP +8.6TQ

Thats a fair amount so coupled with my other mods and the exhaust manifold + race cat and a map I would hope to see 235-245bhp given that a milltek exhaust and cold air feed showed 217bhp however the lower side of that bhp figure is what I think is more realistic. Mid range torque and power is what the major changes are made over stock rather than top end.

Not happy with the stock brakes on my FN2.

Dc5 brakes are a great upgrade.. But it's £500 minimum. Decisions... Decisions..

I too find the fn2 brakes poor, even after fitting ds2500s, ebc ultimax discs, braided lines and rbf600 fluid they don't exactly impress me. Just seem to lack bite and you have to press pretty hard on the pedal before it starts to slow down. The relative lack of engine braking due to the characteristics of these engines does not help the feeling of the car being a bit under braked! It does stop well enough but it just doesnt feel that good, lackong bite and requiring a hefty shove on the pedal.

Would love a big brake kit but all options are very expensive and wheel clearance is an issue too

Not sure on Willwoods Muffin, it isn't something the FN2 owners seem to use. Stoptech Big Brake Kits are the solution, anywhere between £600-1200

I have the same problem Will. I have braided lines, plain brembo fronts, yellow stuff pads and standard Castrol Fluid (all fluid feels the same IMO, except you're relying on it to withstand temps etc)

I think either the DC5 or Evo brakes are the way forward. I have clearance for both with the Evo 8 rims. But the Evo calipers require some engineering work to make them fit. I like a challenge, but not that big of a challenge ;)

I read somewhere that DC5 brakes aren't that much of an improvement over stock calipers and that is on the 150+kg lighter EP3.

If I was spending £500+ on brakes. I would be looking at a stoptech bbk of some description.

I dislike the idea of caliper relocation brackets and all that jazz.

the DS2500s, hel lines and RBF600 weren't a noticeable improvement initially for me.
all these stories of pedal feel improving and that sort of stuff wasn't there for me.

took the car on track, different story. zero fade. aggressive pedal response under heavy braking.

more than good enough for me at least.

The problem with DC5 brakes is that the standard disks are rubbish, the calipers are great though when complimented with good pads.

I wouldn't run Wilwoods on a road car.

Have either of you guys looked at the 348mm discs along with caliper relocation brackets? They do a better job than brembos and s2000 discs looking at the reviews that are around (if you can find them).

The powerslot/stoptech big disc conversion is something I looked at briefly, but it has apparently been discontinued now....so not sure how viable a long term prospect it would be.

I know discs last ages but I wouldn't want to find I'm left with junk in 3 years if you cant get the disc. The bell and caliper brackets are reusable of course, but the 348mm disc is an odd one. I know I could probably get 330mm or 356mm discs to match the bell from Reyland....but not sure on 348! I need to look into it more though...

It would definitely be an improvement though I think - I went from 278mm to 300mm discs on the fiesta st that I had, with the same caliper and same brand of disc/pads and it certainly seemed to bite better.

In a few months I might approach reyland and see what they'd suggest - lately they've started selling big brake kits using their own version of the AP cp5200 caliper, and cheaper discs. Be slightly cheaper than stoptechs bbk, cheaper than the genuine AP or Brembo GT kit, and not require crazy wheel offset like the k sport kits seem to.

Make sure you fully research what the effects will be when you install bigger brakes, bias etc. Hate to see longer stopping distances :D

I'm amazed there's no Wilwood package for the EP3/FN2, they're lighter, more choice of pads and they're under half the price for the usual RC5s etc.

I didn't think I'd miss my EP3 that much but, I think I am doing! Had to sell due to old company going bust and didn't want the risk of anything going wrong (clutch was IMO due, rear tyres, few other bits) so I sold up for a good price and got my cheap Astra.

But, I miss the handling, power etc. I've sorted a new job so gonna get saving for a few months and I am thinking about FN2's now.

Is there anything specific to FN2's to look out for? I have a good checklist I collated for the EP3 which I can add to if you guys have some advice/pointers? :)

For the FN2:

Rusty roofs (mine going in to be fixed shortly, the weather strip at the top of the windscreen cuts through the paint on the roof eventually causing the paint to bubble).

Rusty door tops.

Clicky clutch pedal (cruise control switch, according to some, master cylinder issue according to others, however this seems to be one of those 'they all do that sir' issues that is a minor annoyance from what I've read, not uncommon at all....this is where the clutch 'clicks' when near the bottom of the pedal travel. My car does this.

Handling as standard is quite poor in my view, camber bolts and proper geo for the front made a world of difference with my car as did the diff but I can't imagine you'll want to chuck money at this like you did with your EP3?

Rust along the top of the wind screen and top of the doors, annoying creaks and rattles and test one on roads you're used to using because the suspension is pretty annoying to live with day to day

You're always going to get a Honda skewed opinion in here, but then again that might be why you posted the question here. Like Jonny says, sounds like you've already made your mind up anyway.

I liked my first EP3, but I had to sell it. I liked my DC2, but it was getting a little long in the tooth and the itch was scratched. So I bought another EP3, coming from a DC2 which arguably is the better driver's car I still get great amounts of enjoyment from the Civic. Admittedly it's got Eibachs, FRSU etc. and the first was bone stock, but they are superb cars for the money and well maintained are fairly bomb proof.

I can't think of another car in the price point I'd own tbh.

Yeah I'm thinking Honda is the way forward.

Type R budget between 6-7k.

Am I right in thinking go for the GT pack? Anything to look out for! Keys timing belt changes etc..

What kind of mileage you get from general driving?

Which colour is the fastest ;)

There is no GT pack on the EP3, that's FN2. You may struggle for the latter with your budget.

MPG, I've just got 285 out of the last tank doing 16 miles a day commute on A and B roads. Best is 345 on my first iirc.

I used to think it was nighthawk black, but soft wafer thin Honda paint can do one for the swirls. Cosmic is where it's at. :)

FN2 GTs can be had betwen 6 and 7k but you'll have to be vigilant on condition & history, but I don't see why not.

Silver or Milano tbh, Nighthawk is just chip and swirl heaven and Cosmic looks like a dirty silver but ou can't get an FN2 in that colour thankfully :p

Cosmic grey is definitely best EP3 colour! Heck it'd be cracking on the FN2 but they didn't bother...

For £6-7k thats top end budget for an EP3, I'd want a very late, mint and well cared for premier edition for around £6k, to spend more than that on an EP it'd have to be a pretty special one (for me a choice list of mods would not put me off the car if I could insure it with them on, and if it was well cared for).
