Type R and VTEC owners

Ep3 is a bit more chuckable, handles better and a more raw drive - less soundproofing so it sounds a bit more manic too.

Fn2 is way more modern inside and out, a bit more refined, doesnt handle as well, has more toys and a massive boot.

Performance wise the driver is likely to be the biggest difference in pace on the road, fn2 is heavier but has a lower final drive and slightly lower vtec engagement point, and most make 5-10bhp more than the claimed 198bhp.

I bought the fn2 because its nicer inside, way more modern, and the toys are nice given the majority of my driving

Cheers Will and Relentless. If they are overall as reliable/stress free as the EP3 (mine was good until I lowered it and polybushed the front lol things just caused me aggro for a bit then) then it's probably a safe bet and I can do without the dual mass flywheel, broken turbo etc worry of modern turbo'd stuff.

Will, I wouldn't want to chuck loads at it. I think plan wise; eibach 15mm springs, any associated bits needed if they're a must like camber bolts and so on, FRSU, then exhaust, induction kit of some sort and some kind of remap/kpro, whichever the FN2 uses best unless it's just the same tuning wise as an EP3. Basic audio upgrades if it can be done cheap enough (HU, new components, small sub/amp). That'd be my lot - I'd be more patient and stretch it out over time and not go replacing stuff which didn't need replacing like I did with mental preventative maintenance on my EP3. I'd definitely force myself into keeping it for 3 years minimum. I only had my EP3 18 months :(

I think if I said 7k budget I could possibly get an 08 plate on about 45-50k if I viewed cars up for 7500ish.

I know people play the 'Honda engines are bulletproof' cliché but personally not interested in a car with that many miles for that price.

Certainly not bulletproof, but you really shouldn't let it be such a large deciding factor.

My DC2 had 72k when I got it, found out it's had some track time with a previous owner and I haven't exactly drivien it like a granny these past 3yrs and 10k miles. She still sings like a beaut!

Anyway, are you really going to stick soo many miles on a car like a DC5 that you're worried about mileage? Surely you'll keep it for a bit then sell it on!

Maybe time to move up out the VTEC club and try something like you've already suggested; Z4M.

I'm not a high mileage user no, about 5-6k a year if that. I think the issue is that it was drilled into me that low mileage is good back when I was buying my first car and of course I should know that a lot of the Honda engines are fine when looked after. Testament to this being the amount of 120k+ examples of DC5 I see and EP3 etc.
I'm thinking about the scratching the evo itch as well, fits in well with the mileage I do, also gets me my first turbo car and maybe more comfortable than my FN depending on setup.
Hard deciding what to move on to but I'm not in a rush so I'll be happy driving a boring standard FN for a bit.

Break through the mould :D:p

Evo's won't be nice and cheap to service, that's why I doubt I'll ever bother with one. I'd rather just have my DC2 Turbo'd if I ever got that itch. Towards 300hp would be epic :)

Yeah they wont be but it's an initially reasonable outlay for big power if you want a lot. There are some tasty hatches on the horizon but they won't be in my price range for a good while. Do still have a hankering for an FD mind.. Ahhh it's too hard to choose.

I like them a lot :) Would be great if I could find one already supercharged, no point swapping for similar power and then having to spend more money to mod. What is the C Pack on a DC5?

Oh, well that was an anticlimax. I'm trying my best to be patient this time around as the FN2 was a total impulse buy although I do not regret it as it's been very good to me so far.
It's not like I've got a shed and need to get something decent before it blows up. Patience is virtue and all that.
