Type R and VTEC owners

He stuck fast on £6K too when I emailed him. Hmmm.

View it by all means, do not buy it for that amount. I've seen facelifts at 90k miles going for around £3.2k now. Some are in very good condition. Pre's can be had for little at £2k now, but some examples are shoddy for that value, which is expected. £5k will get you a very good example if you look around a little bit more. £6k for that, no thanks.

Cheers mate, least its give me some perspective :)

Now Ive decided to go for an EP3, I seem more excited at the prospect than I did with the FN2. Perhaps its because Ive been looking for a good FN2 for so long (5 weeks). Plus I also have fond memories of my old EP3. Gone are the days of me spending £10K+ on cars. Looking forward to a modest budget car I can fling about... at my ripe age of 31 :D

Pulled out of going to see the EP3 I linked above, seller seems a genuine guy but when I did my last "anything I need to know before I come see the car" question he told me theres a whine. He text me;

"It's from the fan belt adjuster it's made the noise for about 3 years on and off. You can buy them for about £90-£100 which I don't mind nocking off the price if your not happy"

I had gearbox failure on my VXR and just cant risk it. Have pulled out. Shame, but I dont have enough mechanical knowledge to trust my own decision. I know gearbox whines should in theory stop when the clutch is disengaged, right ?

Decided to keep the FN2 for a little while as I'm liking it quite a lot so will be putting my EP3 up for sale. Does £3300 sound reasonable for this before I put it up for sale?

77k Mileage, Mot till June next year, Tax just ran out, Hpi clear. Car is in very very good condition etc etc

Looks a nice clean car. Try it, they still fetch good money all in all for a good motor.

EP3's all whine from the timing chain, quite normal, he could be worried over nothing with his car which would be beneficial for you if it was a grand less. :)

EP3 with a whine, could be nothing. Now he's said he'd knock down a £100 because of the whine, you can bring him down more. I do think the car's worth viewing Hutchy. The more you the view the better idea you'll get of what's good/bad. Offer him £5k as by the photos it does look to be in great nick. If he doesn't sell it, he may just take you up on that offer, if it stands. But by then you may have bought a better example. Worth a shot.

Soul.Survivor your ep3 looks great and price is reasonable judging by the photos. Looks a bit pinky in some of the pics.

Thats a well loved EP3.

Refilled my Civic 1.8 SE before going to the zoo and back then today trip to Newcastle up the M42/M1/A1 (185miles), typical motorway driving but avoided breaking 80mph when possible and keeping the ECO lights lit.

Pretty impressive really I thought for a simplish petrol, real is probably ~47 MPG.

Buy a cheaper EP3 and spend less than the difference in putting anything right?

On another note, if all goes well this Thursday I'll be putting down a deposit on a DC5! :D

It's not pink at all, pics were taken on my phone thats why they look a bit pink but thank you :)

Thats a well loved EP3.

It sure is :D

I think £3300 for that is a bargain tbh.

I would put it at 3500 and see how you get on.

Thanks :) Will be putting it up for sale end of this week :)

If I had the cash in my hand I'd be very tempted!

Which brings me on to the following... As some of you know I'm umming and arring over an EP3 again...

I have a Fiesta ST at the moment, some mods, I got it for a good price (owes me approx 4200 quid), 58 reg, 46500 miles at the mo, mint in and out really, AP coilovers, mint 16" powdercoated wheels, mountune airbox, milltek downpipe, piper cat back. It's nippy, cheap to run, good on fuel but a bit small and no vtec.

I really don't know wether to try and sell it and get another Type R or just put it down to I've had one now, I know what they cost to run which is more than the Fiesta but they're tough, reliable cars and feel like they will take abuse.

I could maybe sell my car for 5k ono and I also have a set of standard wheels with brand new tyres plus standard suspension I could sell also. I'd make more money selling the standard wheels and new tyres for 400 than faffing about swapping bits over.

Ultimately I could perhaps end up with 5100/5200 if I played my cards right making this a car I've not lost cash on! I need to choose what I'm doing soon as I'm at the point where I'm gonna do things like brake fluid, gearbox oil, PAS fluid etc on the Fiesta... but why spend money if I decide a week later I want to sell afterall?

What should I do? :D Keep the Fiesta and enjoy the cheaper motoring? Or get the slightly more grown up Civic, bigger also which is nice...

And then, cheap one around 3k similar to soul.survivors above? Or premier around 5k+?

I've considered newer stuff, Corsa VXR's or FN2's but they're not that good value for the age to me, but I guess I was spoilt with this Fiesta for value for money. Boosted ST's and Astra VXR's are just gonna break and cost money. An EP3 is a solid all rounder, pop to the shops, cruise in moderate comfort, give it death all day long and they lap it up and don't really break. ARGH!
