Type R and VTEC owners

No boy racer stuff....then suggests buying spoon n1....loudest exhaust known to humankind...does not compute.

The exhaust and filter are for a friend, i know he is looking for the filter for sure.

Stormster, I paid £3k, it came in as a trade in at the honda dealer it was bought from new and I have a friend that works there so I got the car for trade price.

Insurance was another LOL, £6 more for 9 months insurance than scoob, which in turn was £12 more than my passat diesel was. Still well under £300 a year.

Tis a good sign when the radio preset #1 is radio 2 and radio 1 was all the way down at #5!

Been over it with a fine tooth comb, and a tin of waxoyl, and all I could find was about 1mm play on the o/s/f anti roll link, can't hear it. Plugged in diagnostic computer to check for any codes, none present.
It's due a service though, but i've bought a standard honda service kit while I was there (oil/air/pollen) and got 5L of their own oil for free :) and my mate stamped my book before I left so it retains the FHSH
Also had to put tax on it as it ran out last month.

Was down at TDI North with my brother last week while his EP3 had a K100 fitted and mapped.

Even from the passenger seat, the car feels completely transformed - breaks traction in 4th now in the damp.

I fancy trying a K100 myself when I find an EP3, never bothered with mods on my old EP3 other than a GruppeM carbon intake.

How much did your brother pay for it including the mapping? Is it just a few hours or all day jobby? I'm not terrible clued up on VTEC mapping, I've heard the VTEC changeover can be made to come in earlier? Does that then mean it loses power higher in the rev range, almost like a turbo diesel power range?

Can't remember the exact amount, but I think it was £600-700 for the K100 including fitting and mapping. The whole process seemed to take around 2-3 hours in total.

I asked Paul about the mapping process for these cars and this is how I understood it (rightly or wrongly): he "locks" the low cam, does some runs with that and makes any necessary adjustments. Then he "locks" the high cam and does the same. The resulting two graphs are then overlayed - he uses this data to determine the best RPM for VTEC to engage (my brothers was set to 5150 RPM I believe). The inlet cam also has VVT, so a further 5 maps are required for the 0-50 degrees of adjustment on that.

I'm pretty sure the K100 doesn't allow you to change the VTEC crossover yourself, although the KPro ECU might if you connect in via a laptop. In all honesty, I'd just leave it wherever it gets set when you have the car mapped.

The car revs to something like 9k RPM now and certainly doesn't feel like its lost any power up there - quite the opposite. Another advantage is it doesn't have the tendency to drop out of VTEC when going up through the gears (if you don't quite get them right) anymore.

I'm sure someone will correct any of the above if I'm wrong. :o

The K100 is now £720 supplied, fitted and mapped on a dyno at TDi North. Each map will be unique to each car, but as much as the industry doesn't like to say it, it's very much plug-n-play in the same cars.

The KPro is £955 for the same, the additional cost comes from the addition of a USB port which will allow you to datalog or map the ECU yourself. Handy, but not essential.

If you want to go the cheaper K100 route, which there's nothing wrong with, it would be better to get all the components or modifications done before getting it fitted and mapped - only official Hondata "partners" are allowed to map them (supposedly). :)

A lot of people find that the remaps improve performance, give a better (read higher and more usable) rev range and actually improve economy figures too!

My fridge is more JDM than your car
