Type R and VTEC owners

I'd go with a Mugen instead.

I had an AEM, was so scared to drive the car during freakishly heavy rain. AEM was louder, but Mugen sounds better :)

I don't want to spend a great deal as the car was cheap, but it seems the V2 is the best thought out one without cutting scuttle panels or having a sponge by the bottom of the bumper. Maybe I should just leave the standard airbox on. I've ordered a Spoon N1 replica though so that will add a bit of noise :)

Just get the K&N Typhoon, sounds exactly the same as Aem and can be picked up quite cheap :)

Had a typhoon on the ep3 I bought. Does sound great it's just heatsoak is an issue with how it's placed.

Have a Typhoon on mine and it sounds great. Not sure about heat soak, everyone mentions it but never backs it up with any graphs or facts that it actually affects engine performance. I certainly can't notice any difference even when it's baking hot.

Peronally I think the term heat soak is over used when talking about intake temps and often misued. Heat soak is meant to be a borader term, any compenent that gets too hot can affect performace.

I am sure a decent cold air feed would help, I will see if I can find an AEM V2 first :)

Couple of pics of my £2250 EP3 Type R, needs a bit more love yet but pretty happy for a cheap fun car. I mainly want to sort a few little dings, front bumper and bonnet respray but not gonna go spending way too much money! Interior is great, just needs a steering wheel refurb. Headlights are a bit of a mess though so tempted to try some of these non genuine ones on eBay for about 80 rather than refurb these. Booked in to get an oil change, gearbox oil change, new plugs, coolant change and valve clearances checked on Saturday :)

A lot of people have logged intake temps using KPro, the open cone filters in the engine bay consistently run hotter than closed box equivalents or the AEM CAI.

There's a reason why pretty much every manufacturer and race teams uses a closed box system for intake systems, not just limited to noise.

Dropped the Civic off for a detail last night, picking it up on Tuesday.

Mind me asking how much? Post pics when it's done :)

I'm looking to get mine done soon too as I've never fully polished or waxed it myself other than using Megs Cleaner Wax and polishing the front bumper/bonnet occasionally.

Been thinking a lot about Superchargers lately. I'm at 220hp and I'd ideally be looking for 300-350 so I can stop the pesky drivers holding me up in the corners just because they can keep up or slightly pull away in the straights (on track). Really does get tiresome after a while. I did an evening session at Donington not long ago and really only got 4 - 5 clean laps where I could go as fast as I wanted without being held up.

It's a fair chunk of cash though and I'd need a baffled sump too which is an extra grand.

£3800 supercharger fitted
£350 clutch
£1000 baffled sump.
£500 Decat manifold.
£700 3" exhaust.

Then I'd probably want a BBK, or at the very least, grooved & dimpled discs and possibly air feeds to the brakes as they were smoking on my last track day and I wasn't even pushing them to the absolute limit!

If I see another supercharged FN2 come up for sale under 10 grand I'll probably just end up grabbing it at this rate.

Labour is the killer I imagine, the baffle itself isn't likely to be that much!

Weren't you going to keep your civic as a road car, and get another cheaper one sorted for track, Plenty O'Toole?

I was going to, but after weighing up how much I've already put in this one and the costs of getting another one to a track ready state (plus additional insurance for another car as I wouldn't be towing it), it doesn't seem worth it to be honest.

~~

It's an FN2 K20(Z4 ?) which has a larger pump - I think - and therefore needs the FD2 pump conversion or shaft delete too.

I had a few quotes which were around £900-1100 supplied and fitted.

From CPL themselves
Prices including VAT are as follows:

- Drop in baffled sump - £199
- Balance shaft delete kit - £349
- 5 litres oil - £40.69
- Labour to fit - £520

The above comes to a total of £1108.69

If I see another charged track-capable EP3/FN2 that's already near a stage I'd want a track car then I'll go for that instead.

The fact I can get an assured value track policy was really the tipping point of keeping this car for track use. I feel much happier knowing that if I manage to bend it then I'd be paid out enough to get another one in the exact same state in terms of mods and labour.

Need to be an intercooled/chargecooled one for track work I expect, the Jackson Racing one is likely to see crazily high intake air temps if going for the most basic 'bolt on' kit?
