Type R and VTEC owners

I was considering the Z4 but decided against it, don't know why as I hadn't even driven one bit of a Honda fan at heart.

It's comfortable, smooth effortless to drive, straight six lets out a lovely scream past 4.5k revs, Just the rattley interior that plagues all E85 gets tedious xD I don't regret the purchase.

The typical list was 350Z, S2K or Z4....Or a E46 330ci that was in there, Of course a decent 350z and S2K were way out my price range at the time and at £4500 for a great example relatively low mileage Z4 it was good value for money really for looks, performance, sound and "badge snobbery", If I had the money I probably would have bought an S2K (Subjective to a test drive of course)

drove a 350Z left me wanting for more, bit disappointed really.

I think the Z4 will be easier to live with, but im still young so it made sense to pick the more unrefined of the two. I don't hear any rattles in mine mainly due to the noise :D

Test drove a ‘10 Plate Civic Type R GT tonight, been looking for something more “fun” and petrol to enjoy now that I don’t commute (just sold a 15’ E Class Coupe Diesel)
Initially I’d been looking at more sporty things like 2 seater coupes (MX5, 350Z, MR2) but had an ‘08 2.2 Diesel Civic a few years back and remembered that it was great to drive.
Type R seems even better - sports seats are nice and supportive and to me it felt like it had a decent amount of power!!
Need to sleep on it but think its going to be my next car! Although based on the Type R’s I seen locally recently I’m going to need to invest in a hoodie and a backward baseball cap!

Need any help or advice, post away :)

+1 on the seats, the FN2 and the FK8 seats are the only ones I could genuinely sit in for several hours without starting to feel discomfort.

+2 on the seats, sat in/drove a lot of other hot hatches non came close in terms of comfort and support. Im far too wide for the focus seats

Thanks guys, they felt nice on the Test Drive, if I remember rightly my previous one had leather seats which actually felt less forgiving than the Alcantara.
I’ve sat in a few newer “hot” cars and found it a bit of a contortion act to get in and out, the Civic feels nice though!

I think I’m going to pull the trigger on the last one I had a shot of, Silver 10’ In almost mint condition with a full Local Honda Service History.
May have preferred one with Sat Nav and Bluetooth built in but I’m braver than I was when I had a Civic before.. so I’m willing to replace the head unit with something more modern anyway to get DAB, Sat Nav and Bluetooth!!

Not too worried mechanically either, I know the things are reliable if they’ve been looked after!

Ive just sold mine, but I replaced the headunit for a double din with bluetooth etc was the best thing I did the stock headunit is pants when it comes to sound quality aswell its night and day difference.
it looks like a massively daunting task to change it, but probs took me 2 hours and that was whilst watching how to videos as I went along

Wait what ?? A TYPE R drives better than 2.2 diesel heavy civic.

SHOCKING !!!

Cheers - yeah it looks fairly straight forward, no matter what car I’d bought I had budgeted to replace with a double DIN (Most stuff I was looking at was pre 2010 without Sat Nav/DAB/Bluetooth), will need to have a proper look but seems easy to get the Connects2 kit with the replacement fascia front, etc and connectors. Will probably go for something that has Apple CarPlay capability as for most basic things Siri is pretty decent.

Haha, I know! First proper more “sporty” car I’ll be getting, my E-Class Coupe was comfy (and rapids with the 2.2 diesel) but it wasnt exactly the last word in handling/driving fun!

My 2011 Type S has been potting along nicely for the past 2 years and has been completely bulletproof so far. But as I was driving back home the power steering cut out suddenly on a straight road.

Put hazards on, pulled over, turned the engine off and on again and it was fine for the rest of the journey. Pretty unnerving for it to happen so randomly.
