Type R and VTEC owners

Good to know it isn’t the synchro issues of old with the FK8. For the first time in a long time I’m looking at a manual gearbox, supposedly one of the best. It would have been a shame had it been fragile.

I also feel it’s a relative performance bargain, although the clever money would be in used. I honestly wasn’t attracted to anything else at this price point, not feeling the need to spend a fortune this time around.

I’m also coming from something stupidly massive, so the relatively sleek proportions of the Civic will be welcomed :D

The only bad thing I'd have to say about it is, it's wide, very wide.
I drove on the Chunnel and probably had 3cm gap so unfortunately managed to give a very slight bit of grazing on the wheels in its second month of life :D

I would be very weary about gearboxes in both the FK2 and FK8, especially if using them on track. Honda UK have also been known to reject warranty claims on them.

Anyone here currently got or had a 2010+ FN2? Wondering if the facelift is worth the extra? That LSD is seriously tempting, since I already own a car with a Quaife LSD I really don't like hot hatch FWD cars without one tbh.

Can only see a few 2010 for sale currently and apparently just because its a 2010 it doesn't mean it has a LSD. I also only realistically have a budget of £5.5k.

It must have been sat for a long time, it does look quite crusty on all the bare metal areas. The tyres are also dated 2015.

Good spot, always replace tyres anyway as some people put some absolute crap on. Asked him if I can view it on Saturday as its chucking it down the next 2 days. If it has been sat that makes me very cautious as it never does cars any good if they have been sat outside in the elements for a long time. Seems too cheap to me for the mileage.

Asked him about the rust on the calipers and dust shields along with if there was any rust on the underside of the car and he replied with:
Hi,

The underside is fine General Wear & Tear, front calipers and dust covers have minimal rust back breaks are a little more corroded. Just had Breaks done less thank 750 miles. Front and back disc and pads all Brembo.. 4 Honda Service stamps rest of the services done privately. Last service was 55k I think. all genuine mileage. Let me know know if your interested. It's 6k you ain't going to find a car like mine with mileage and history for the price.

I really wouldn't be overly concerned about rusty calipers (they are cast iron) or disc backing plates. Remember that with Covid, a lot of cars will have barely turned a wheel in the last year or so, and it's 12 years old.

Ended up today with a 2009 FK2 Civic Type R. just over 100K miles for £3990 it's a facelift and has the LSD which was a major point for me, loved driving it back apart from the ditch finder tyres which are getting binned asap even if only for Rainsport 5's. Gearbox is a million miles better than the Corolla T sport box and the VTEC sounds great as it has a HKS intake on it. I'm not sure what exhaust it has on it but it's stainless and sounds nice. The lift on the Corolla comes in a lot harder than VTEC, you barely notice VTEC apart from the noise change in comparison.

2009, presumably an FN2 then, not FK2? Probably the tamest NA iteration of VTEC from the Type Rs, definitely doesn't have that kick like the old B16 and B18! Sounds like a lot of car for the money though, keep on top of the oil and very little goes wrong!

Yeah FN2  lol these revisions confuse me sometimes. It's just a new daily so it's just right for me. Just got it booked in for 4 new pilot sport 4 tyres tomorrow. What's the point of having a good handling car with LSD and then putting ditch finders on it

Although it isn't harsh like a B16, I can easily feel the VTEC engage on my FN2.

Anyone know where I can source a K20 from these days? eBay looks meh as standard, would rather avoid and get a known good lump to start from.

I think most people buy full crashed donor cars and part them out keeping what they need. Maybe keep an eye on Copart auctions. Otherwise call round Honda tubers and see if they have anything to offer.

Ah if I had the space to part out a car... Ideally it would be one delivered/collected on a pallet and straight on to a stand to begin work but I'll check Copart - good shout thanks. I've mailed TGM earlier this week to see if they are able to source as they're on my doorstep pretty much.

Probably worth dropping a note to Tegiwa and TDI North too, as both see a fair amount of Hondas every week and usually have good relations with owners.
