Type R and VTEC owners

Hey guys, im 22 years old and have 1 year NCB on a company van, my dad used to have a 2004 civic type r, now im looking to get myself a car after driving a work van for a year, ive always wanted a DC5 and got a insurance quote for £1118 a year.

But i noticed the details said 2.0 accord type r instead or integra? I dont know much about integra's other than they look amazing imo.

Are the integra's imports or was they released in the UK?

Whats a resonable price to pay for a good nick dc5? And is there anything you should look for with these cars?

Also, is it normal for compare to pick dc5's up as accord's i used a few reg from dc5's ive seen for sale and shows up as 2l accord type r's
 
No, it's not 'normal'. I would say use an insurer like Adrian Flux, Sky or Chris Knott. But they like you to be at least 25, maybe even 30.


DC2 was UK and Japan
DC5 was Japan only
 
Yeah your best bet is probably going to be one of the admiral group companies given the age.

Just manually put the model details in to get a quote - if it's acceptable then phone them up, give the reference and the reg of the car you think you'll buy and make sure they keep it as a dc5 on the system - means you have a valid quote

I'd say you'd need £8-£9k for a very good condition DC5 these days, they are holding their prices really well.

There are no known "weaknesses" as such with the DC5, just make sure there is no rust and the engine pulls well. The VTEC changeover should be very noticeable on standard cars. If it's not, chances are that the VTEC isn't engaging properly.

As for insurance, because the DC5 is a grey import many of the major insurance chains don't recognise it. Stick to one of the specialist insurers (e.g. Sky), as they will know what the car is and it's proper relative value. They are normally cheaper than the mainstream too.

I got my DC5 a week before I turned 22, so you aren't the only person to do it! The quote you got monetary wise isn't bad, but it's for the wrong car so it's irrelevant. If you are serious about getting one, get onto the ITR-DC5 forums and have a good read. For reference, my first insurance quote came to just a tad over £1200 for the 'teg with one modification (air intake) and 12k miles a year. That's with no "powerful" car history ( 4 years NCB in a little 306!).

Depending on what age and mileage you want, the price will vary. I'm contemplating putting mine up for sale (not an advert) and I wouldn't imagine it would fetch much more than £5k. That's a 51 plate, in championship white and 100k miles now - but it does need some bodywork attention. I've seen one with the same age but <50k miles go for little change with £8k. Might be worth having a look at the auction and import route as well. I plan on doing this in the future as I have a feeling I won't want to be without the car for long...
 
Ok so been looking about and white seems to be the most common, so im on the look out for either a blue or black teg dc5, would prefer blue tho :D on the bay you can get a fresh import for around 8-9k

That might be the way to go, want a stock un modded car for insurance reasons and would like to tinker wirh it myself over time.

Still need to ring sky insurance yet, a mate of mine has a civic FN2 type r that hes spent loads of money on, told him how much my insurance quote was with compare for a dc5 and his face just dropped :D hes response was you jammy so and so lol

As for modifications, if you speak to the right sort of insurers they really won't make much difference.

The basic ones to try are Brentacre, Chris Knott and Sky. There's also Sainsbury's who quite a few teg owners are getting good quotes from, as well as Greenlight.
 
theres a importer not far from me that has a championship white DC5 coming in the start of September that is completely stock, might have to have a wonder and see it :D

Am I right in assuming if I go for a Type S GT Civic around the 08/09 age thats the highest trim level?

After reading up on these and comparing runnign costs versus performance I've been battered into submission. I'd actually written off the civics as my new car as thoguht the rear visibility was pretty much 0. Test droive the 1.8 petrol yesterday, seems a fialry nice place to be, rear is fairly spacious according to my missus and mate who came along with me. She likes the look of em in black and I the interior is far better in alacantra than leather.

Any major pitfalls with these?
I'm seeing them advertised for 4-8k seems a massive variance.
Looking at apending around 5k I think and then slapping a 12 month waranty on it for the apparant DMF/Clutch issues they seem haunted by

I've always been against dieseasel but spent the weekend looking around and ended up liking these. It appears that for a few hundred quid theres a pretty good remap which takes the diseasel above the 1.8 petrol power wise, with very little impact on MPG.

I was fillgin the mazda 3/4 timers a month at a cost of 65-70 and getting around 260miles to a tank. Worked out I'd be filling this maybe twice at a push, massive decreased on tax too 490 > 130

Also why am I seeing some with a crystal centre section on front grille and others with black? Facelift?
Any other small differences?
