Type-R gets a new engine

Never liked a diesel, never owned a diesel. The noise and the smoke just doesnt make for an enjoyable driving experience.

Diesel = Economy
Petrol = Performance

Thats why 99.9% of company and fleet cars are diesel.
The real men drive petrol cars.

PS. The pennys dropped for Honda.

It's because of the EP3 that the new GTi is so good, it's because of it that Vauxhall, Ford and the rest are now actually releasing good hot hatches reminiscent of the old times. If the EP3 didn't exist I bet the market would be rather dull. Honda made all the other manufacturers go back to the drawing board with their tails in between their legs and forced them to come up with better models.

I find that difficult to believe. If anything its the VAG Group (VW) leading the way for other manufacturers.......

VTECs are very different to bike engines

As an analogy, not really, have you ridden a sports 600 and a sports 1000?

From my experiences of VTEC and Bikes, the difference in power delivery of a 600/1000 is very similar to the difference in power delivery of a VTEC to a Turbo engine.. OK they are not exactly the same, but you get the drift ;)

Off 'cam' the bike is pathetic, off vtec honda's still pull ok.

Anyway aren't sports bikes for ragging?

Not in 2001 they weren't, they were busy churning out awful 115bhp Mk4 GTi's to people that couldn't see past the badge.

They had to up their game, and they did it with style with the Mk5, there's no way it would be as good as it is without the effect of the competition.

Took the words out of my mouth.

ive not heard anyone say a diesel was better than 100bhp/litre 8krpm+ 2.0 petrol engine.

ive not driven a 170tdi... sounds like i should give one a try. was there anything wrong with the civic engine or was the vag tdi just better?

Dont get me wrong, the civic lump is good on an open road where you could give it some and keep the revs up but it only had about 140lbft of torque at 6k where the diesel has 220lbft at around 1500rpm and thats with about 45 to the gallon as well lol

I think you must be thinking 2 strokes...

Modern sports 600's are pretty OK in the low/midrange, certainly no 'off cam' sort of feeling like a stroker.. just when it gets to 8-10,000+ there is almost a 'step' up in power..

Here's a std K4 GSXR600 dyno plot

This is rather vtec'ish is it not... :)

i wouldnt be so slow to **** off, diesel engines are going to reign supreme, i have a vauxhall astra sri 150 bhp, remapped to 200bhp and it goes like poo off a spade, the torque is amazing... bhp is nice, torque is nicer, i bet the diesel type r will outperform the petrol version. vauxhall have already anounced they are making vxr diesels after the roaring success of thurlby 888s tuned my model into a car that can compete with a vxr but get double the fuel economy. diesel is the way ahead.

200bhp seems optimistic. Did they prove you with a graph to show that or did the guy just tell you 'its running around 200bhp'?
