Tyre Nichols murder

I’m not sure on the content of the article, but the headline is potentially true: would the deceased have been treated differently if he was white? Nobody will ever know, but systemic racism can at least theoretically devalue the worthiness of a person to fair treatment by all persons.

'Theoretically' is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence. This was not a race based or even race related crime. It was a crime of violence by police who are accustomed to abusing their power and getting away with it.

Yeah it's clear that the only thing to take away from all this is "those police bad", but George Floyd being overly manhandled while he died of an overdose is "all cops and all white people bad".

Also don't forget, when I white guy is killed by the police in the states there's nary a whisper.

Not going to watch a video of someone getting kicked to death. I hope those animals get what they deserve :(

I don’t think it’s possible to be so objective, unless you are being narrow in scope with what you mean by ‘race related crime’.

Race may have (and in this case probably does have) absolutely nothing to do with directly affecting the specific motives of the persons involved - I would agree with that. But it’s very possible that how the interactions took place was indirectly influenced on the perceived value of that person based on their ethnicity.

Based on what we hear about the US police, I suspect that I would be less likely to face unfair treatment by them because I’m white, regardless of the race of the officers dealing with me.

There’s certainly some form of prejudice going on, you got to ask yourself if had it been a blonde 21yr old or an 79yr old…would the same have happened to them if all interactions stayed the same from the victim?

Sounds like you are hedging around the term institutional racism

I started to watch it, but couldn't continue, I lost it when he called out for his mum. :(

I'm confused. Are you saying this is a race attack?

I assume that the picture provokes fear into Doobeedoo which is why he is making his claim, I don't feel he's being racist, he wasn't the one who highlighted their race.

Skirting around would have been more appropriate :)

Ah - okay. Thanks! I initially referred to it as ‘systemic racism’ in an earlier post, which is synonymous I think.

In short, yes - I’m referring to wider prejudices in society having an impact on how people are treated.

Answer the question i asked, what is your answer? Age, gender, how he talk (what if he had a british accent?), would he have had the same treatment?

So your saying this a racist attack?

Are you saying attacks from the police don't happen to other genders/ages/accents?
