high likely hood of a goal based on previous match data, but it isn't.... because someone blocks, it a goal keeper saves it etc....

As far as I know the modelling takes into account a huge amount of data. Not just "when a player shoots from here there is X chance of it going in historically".

blocks are a very small part and saving quality is a different stat completely (post shot xG) xG is chances, a good defence doesn't concede chances.

and a good attack doesn't waste them

yopu can flip a coin and maybe guess 60% of the time the outcome. it doesn't mean you should be just given the rest you failed on.

it's a meaningless stat to me, it's an indication of potential wasted imo


you could claim the incident that resulted in a penalty was a 1 XG because if #7 ran forward and tried to score he more than likely would have.

instead he wasted the chance instantly running towards the ref whilst the ball was still in play.

felt to me like every time they cried penalty pretty much their whole team just stopped and turned to the ref to pressure him, they wanted a penalty and they were going to try their damned hardest to get one no matter what

I don't know really, we've got a Brazilian, Portuguese and Argentinian out there Generally the wet weather will impact the team that need to win the game more.
