UEFA Champions & Europa League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [4th - 6th May 2021]

Absolutely deserved, they've been the best team in the competition this season. Hope they win it. Shame Bayern didn't have Lewandowski playing in the quarters, City v a full strength Bayern would have been a great match
Yep, gotta say I'm no blue but deserved that one, PSG are no push-overs. Chelsea in final? Easy, Madrid not so sure.

At the Euros you will see how good Neymar is

I reckon he will be completely anonymous. Won't know hes there. Mbappe will be far better.

I think the opposite. Chelsea are the perfect team to beat City. Disciplined, compact, defend as a team and decent on the counter. City aren't good defensively and I think Chelsea will pick them off. I would rather a RM vs City final because who the hell wants to watch a PL game effectively.

They literally have the best defensive record, how are they not good defensively :p

Chelsea will suck the life out of City's game and probably win, similar to the FA cup game not so long ago. Let's hope for the sake of football, that's not the case.

Its all a bit of luck. They have played 12 CL games this season I think they said and conceded 4 goals. They didn't play a decent side until Dortmund and Dortmund were hardly firing on all cylinders. Dortmund also had a perfectly good goal disallowed against them. PSG should have won the first game with the chances they created. xG for the first leg was roughly 1.75 for PSG and 0.8 for City.

They have rode their luck in a few games when it comes to conceding goals.

I wasn't even talking CL, I was talking PL!

God the news this morning has been 1 big City jerkfest, yes they have played well this season and sometimes been great to watch but when you look at money spent it's more a surprise that this will be their 1st European final, they have massively underperformed in Europe and have still got to win the final, gotta say this is the worst semi-finals for a neutral because it was either oil money (City & PSG), government bailout kings (Real) or extremely questionable wealth (Chelsea) and unfortunately they can't all lose which would be my preference.

It does say a lot about the other 3 when Real are the most desirable winners. And yea, this plucky underdog narative that's being spun around City making the final is a bit mad.

Pep took over a title winning side and has only spent 870 million to be fair to him.

The plucky underdog that has been bookies favourite for a good while now. If there was any season that City should win the CL it is this year. RM, Barca, Juve etc are all a bit of a shadow of their former selves, Bayern were missing some key players and were generally poor and City have grown as the season progresses.

I can't help but feel that City wouldn't get such a free ride if United weren't such a good contrast for how to completely waste similar sorts of money. But yes, hes been there 5 years with crazy spending and he inherited a cracking side. Not winning the CL before now is pretty poor.

How PSG didn't get any more reds, I'll never know. I thought Mahrez was just going to bamboozle him until he got sent off lol.

Referee knew they were thoroughly beaten and took pity on them I think. They should have had another 2 reds IMO. I assume the only reason City didn't wind them up even more is because they didn't want to risk injury from the tackles coming in.

PSG want the ref investigated for swearing at the players :o

Dive, cheat, lose your temper and make horrific tackles two games running but the ref swearing is the only thing they care about. Soft *****.

The difference is United didnt have as good a side as City when Pep took over. Dont get me wrong United have spent horribly but Im not sure a comparison is fair.

This will get completely ignored compared to Uniteds Treble in 1999 and Liverpools in 2001. At least we have consolidation that they will not get the real treble :p.

The seasons a right off anyway but Pep has spent an obscene amount of money and will likely take it well over a billion in the summer.

Oh I'm not saying its a fair comparison but at a surface level both clubs have spent similar amounts and ended up with very different results with regards to squad depth, overall quality and silverware. Its an easy if lazy comparison.

Nah, they just beat PSG without Mbappe, it won't be as easy against Kroos, Benzama etc etc. Credit to City though, a great team to watch right now, just don't think they can contain a Madrid who have lifted it 4 times in last 7 years.
