UEFA Champions & Europa League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [5th - 7th November 2024]

Well, I'm enjoying this format much more than the old one, even if it is just a case of a change is as good as a rest.

Everybody playing an interesting selection of teams and so far nobody obviously playing for draws away, from the games I've watched is much more entertaining.

Given the calibre of teams facing elimination/not automatically qualifying, it's really shaping up for some blockbuster final matches.

It is a shame Amorim has to come to our dog turd of a club and ruin himself as if he stayed at Sporting maybe we could have had some magical run in the Champions League.
Just watched the highlights on YT. The difference between the two teams is crazy. However, he seems to already see this (you'd have to be stupid if you couldn't see it) so I'm sure he knows what's coming. Along with trippling his salary of course :)

He has practically said that the United squad is poor and the EPL is tough.

No cl this season, no cl next season.. they can't afford to. Need to be smart with their money for a change.

We will go on and win Europa now. ;) Also despite how dreadful we are we are only 6 points off top 4 at the moment. The good thing with Europa this season is none of the bigger teams drop into it so it is easier to win theoretically.

If Amorin is the next Messiah (I have little faith because of how good ETH was at Ajax) and we hit the floor running with him we still have a good chance of top 4. He will get two weeks with the squad and 3 winnable games before Arsenal away.

ETH was good at Ajax but it doesn't always translate. Same applies to Amorim but he's got every chance of being a success if he's supported properly. ETH was in charge of the dominant club in Holland, where as Amorim had to topple both Benfica and Porto.

Have you stopped being the eternal optimist now? This will cheer you up:

Liverpool looked fantastic last night, Slot really seems to be getting the best out of Curtis Jones.
Curtis was our best midfielder up until he got injured in December last season, he's got immense talent he's just been hugely unlucky with injuries and they always seem to come along when he's stamping his authority onto the team (a bit like Konate in that respect). He just needs to stop picking up little injuries that impact his season.

Their second goal was so good. Pretty much the perfect goal.

It's going to be interesting to see where Liverpool end up, Slot seems to have taken Klopp's side and made it more stable. With City struggling a bit you'd have to think Liverpool have a chance of winning the league...

Liverpool are more than capable of winning the double or even the treble this season. It just depends on when or if Slots tactics get found out or they get major injuries but they are in the driving seat for sure.

Hopefully they pick up some injures along the way

Every team picks up injuries over the course of a season (well unless you are arsenal the past 2 years :p ), we already have a fair few with Ali and Jota being arguably the 2 who get into our 1st 11, then we've got Elliott and Chiesa - good options off the bench curently out and Bradley came back and made the squad last night after 3 games out. What we don't want and hopefully won't happen is the kind of list we've had the past few seasons.

Hopefully they pick up a load more injuries along the way :)

Yeah, Slot is doing a good job and City/Arsenal seem to be having poor seasons for the time being. Whether all three things will continue to be true come May is up for debate but I kind of feel for Klopp. His Liverpool peaked at the wrong time and despite doing a fantastic job, his silverware at the club will not really be a good reflection of what he built.

Unlike SAF though, look what he left/what the management are capable of.

Again this is why is concerns me that Amorim wasn't good enough for them, they don't tend to make many bad decisions. The opposite of United, actually.
