UEFA Champions League 22/23 November *** Spoilers ***

First goal they've conceded in the group stages too, although to be fair with games this academic you'd be hard pressed to find a team that wouldn't start falling asleep. Will probs annoy Josè lol, he does love his clean sheets.

Ha, 2nd. They're getting lazy. Don't think they'll score 4 in a couple of minutes though!

Also it's not football but Nadal just got tanked by Fed at the O2. Rarely see him lose a set 6-0.

So UTD will finish 2nd and City need a result against Bayern and that still doesn't ensure they make it through. Interesting...

Caught the second half, Napoli had us very sussed just like they did back home. We piled it on in the last ten minutes but it wasn't enough, such a shame, especially conceding the first goal, an almost carbon replica of the one Bayern scored against us. The amount of blocks Napoli made from crosses on the edge of the box was literally insane, I've never seen us have to take so many throw ins from just alongside the 18 yard box. Didn't create enough chances, Joe Hart kept it respectable. Was certain Balotelli was going to score with that lob over the top from Yaya Toure!!

I was just forgetting what it felt like to lose as well :D Here's hoping we do what we did after loosing at Bayern and go on another storming run in the league. Relying on Villareal to do anything to Napoli with us beating Bayern just about puts us out I think. Was fun while it lasted :)

How is it impossible

Surely we beat Basel and Benfica fail to win...

It's not impossible but it is unlikely. Galati are dreadful and there's next to no chance of them getting any sort of result against Benfica. I've said it before and I'll say it again, our lack of ability in central midfield is going to cost us any chance of a decent trophy this season. Fergie made a massive mistake not signing Sneijder and it's now showing, pretty much every good team this year has dominated us in midfield. We're also making far too many stupid mistakes at the back, Benfica's second goal was a shambles by Jones and De Gea. Not a happy United fan! :(

thats now impossible - Utd have to face liklihood of not even getting out of the group, 1st is a pipedream

Talking rubbish. United have one goal more than Benfica on GD and are on equal points. We both draw next game, we win the group. We win and Benfica don't, we win the group. We win and score the same amount of goals as Benfica, we win the group.

City are almost certainly out, even jesus cant save them.
Utd have to rely on benfica slipping up to get out first though 2nd place should be guaranteed. Though 2nd place could mean a match of death!

Above post you are relying on benfica not thrashing the romanians, which any half decent team should have done :p

Doesn't work like that.

It's done on results between teams and Benfica are ahead of us on away goals.

Might want to look up the rules before calling something rubbish.

This shows how far behind British clubs are compared to europe

City's group was hard and they've been naive thinking the way they play in the league now will work in tricky away fixtures in Europe. The park-the-bus City of last season would have ground a boring result out tonight, probably. Think they've only got themselves to blame if they finish 3rd now, unless Bayern really cba with turning up given they're already guaranteed top spot.

United's performances remind me of that year they finished bottom of their group, trollololol. I still think they'll qualify though, just that they can't really afford to finish 2nd given who they could end up playing.

Chelsea and Arsenal are top of their groups and doing alright. Just.

1) How many points have Galati got in 5 games, 0 , - yet you expect them to get at least 1 vs the group leader? Given how close the group is (top three at least) Benfica have to go into this last game going for it , rather than not worrying

2) Look at the quality of Utd's performances so far - questionable to say the least, yet they need at least 1 to even quality and probably win away from home against the team challanging for 2nd (ie it isnt a dead rubber)

3) Dont the results vs Benfica (if Utd go through) dictate who is 1st and 2nd irrespective of the other results - so they are gaurenteed 1st (with more away goals in tonights game vs our solitary effort in the first group game)

So yes I think its impossible for Utd to get top

No it isnt rubbish - compare who Benfica are playing compared to Utd. They are practically gaurenteed to win that game (as its still a live game for them)

After tonight why do you EXPECT Utd to win the tougher of the last two remaining matches after scraping a draw at home?

Even with both Benfica and Utd drawing in two weeks (which in itself is unlikely) for the reasons above I dont believe Utd would be top anyway

Much better from us tonight, for 70 minutes I thought we were brilliant Fletcher and Carrick controlling things but mistakes at the back cost us again and when they made their change we lost all the momentum :(

Going to be a scary prospect of finishing second in the group as that much is sure now but I'm sure we'll get at least a draw against Basel

All that being said I'd rather be in our position than City's :p
