UEFA Champions League 22/23 November *** Spoilers ***

Mancini got it so wrong tonight its crazy. I know you like to rotate the fullbacks but for our biggest game ever probably you play with your best 11. Clichy and Richards would have been able to both cope with the pace that Lavezzi and Hamsik offer as well as going forward stretching their 3 man defence.

Dzeko looked utter rubbish so he goes off and Aguero comes in, that doesnt work well at least you tried instead of waiting for the final 10mins. Milner did well but he cant win games himself.

Really annoyed and would rather just get kicked out now rather than go in Europa which is such a awful competition.

You won't. You look a fool when you tell somebody they're talking rubbish, when in actual fact you're talking rubbish :)

No, really, I'll be fine.

It comes down to away goals first then away goals vs teams. We are playing away next and Benfica are at home, they can't get any more away goals.

:o

If United finish level on points with Benfica it's decided on away goals in the two games between United and Benfica ergo we drew 1-1 on their ground and they drew 2-2 tonight - they scored 1 more away go against us than we did against them so they finish top

I don't think you understood. It's irrelevant whether we are at home or away next. It's results between the two teams Benfica have scored 2 away goals, versus our 1.

In other words, if both Benfica and United win or draw, Benfica win the group regardless of how many goals United score and how many goals Benfica score. The only way United can now finish top is to win and hope Benfica drop points against Galati, which is very unlikely.

With all respect to Benfica, we really should be beating them. They're a decent team by Portuguese standards, but the Portuguese league is not one of Europe's top leagues. United were better tonight but mistakes are still costing us, and Vidic is badly missed when he doesn't play.

No doubt DM will be in to tell us how wrong Mancini got it, despite us smashing Prem league records and deafening silence from him so far bar Bayern :p

To be honest whilst Richards and Clichy would have been nice, Mancini didn't get it *that* wrong from what I saw. Aguero coming on sooner maybe, but Richards + Clichy could have just left us open to more counter attacks than we knew what to do with. Milner was freaking superb again, it was Yaya who I thought was off the pace. Bit slow to make the right pass. Silva is still fantastic to watch, went on some great little runs, in the last 10 minutes I really thought we might do a Villareal again, we were hammering it. Alas it wasn't to be. Regardless, your manager is allowed to be a little wrong sometimes when he's doing so well in everything else. Makes me feel better than I don't honestly think a single team from the EPL would have gotten out of our group either.

split hairs why dont you

Benfica are practically gaurenteed to win (at home) against a team who havent got a point yet

so Utd cant top the group

tbf I'm sure no one expected them to draw at home to Basel so it is possible if they take Galati lightly they could come a cropper. Unlikely but the luck we've been getting this season who knows :D

Richards and Clichy would have been able to cope a lot better with Lavezzi etc though as well as offering a quick counter attack ourselves.

Yaya needs to be rested far more, he uses so much energy compared to everyone else.

I am not saying Mancini out its just so frustrating watching the game and thinking that changes could have won it.

but mistakes are still costing us

I didn't think it was just individual mistakes that was your problem today. While you were on top for the most part, Benfica always looked a threat on the break. Neither your midfield or your defense knew whether to or when to pick up the likes of Aimar and Gaitan, and they were getting too much space between your midfield and defense.
