UEFA Champions League 22/23 November *** Spoilers ***

tbf I'm sure no one expected them to draw at home to Basel so it is possible if they take Galati lightly they could come a cropper. Unlikely but the luck we've been getting this season who knows :D

Basel are a MUCH better team than Galati though, but point taken :)

Still believe 1st is impossible, but two weeks time will tell

You should really apologise to Frank for saying he was talking rubbish :)

I really shouldn't. You should really stop telling people what to do, oh wait...

I can say and do whatever I like really can't I. I didn't jump online and immediately check the exact rules of the competition, oh no, shoot me. Get over it.

and Utd have a choice of Anderson, Fletcher & /or Giggs for CM away to Basel as well with everyone else either injured or ruled out

opps I forgot the option of the mighty Gibson......

Really annoyed and would rather just get kicked out now rather than go in Europa which is such a awful competition.
Really? Despite the fact you haven't been in Europe for approximately 700 years, and have still only won one trophy since you spent all those bazillions? Honestly?

I didn't think it was just individual mistakes that was your problem today. While you were on top for the most part, Benfica always looked a threat on the break. Neither your midfield or your defense knew whether to or when to pick up the likes of Aimar and Gaitan, and they were getting too much space between your midfield and defense.

Disagree, we were caught cold with their opening goal due to numerous individual mistakes and their second was almost completely due to De Gea's lackadaisical kick. I agree they look quite threatening on the break but I really wasn't ever worried about them actually scoring with any of their attacks

Yes, what is the point of us going in the Europa? it adds more games to our schedule which we dont want.

If we can't beat Basel with 2 players out then we should just concede defeat anyway.

It's a trophy. A trophy you've not won before and you're squad is hardly going to be stretched with a few EL games, is it?

edit: And simply winning it would make you more successful in Europe than both Chelsea and Arsenal :p

01 De Gea
03 Evra
04 Jones
05 Ferdinand
20 Fabio Da Silva (Nani 69)
08 Anderson (Berbatov 82)
11 Giggs (Park Ji-Sung 61)
16 Carrick
18 Young
25 Valencia
19 Welbeck

Was our team for the first match against Basel, at OT

Pretty strong team I think you will agree (admittedly without Rooney though), Carrick cant play but put Fletcher in there instead and two weeks time is probably likely to be similar, but being away likely to be a much tougher task as well.....

Two more extra games than if you were to make it all the way in the CL, and like BaZ said, it's a trophy.

If Arsenal ended up in it, I'd still rather we won it than want us to go out.

And we were ******* appalling, what's your point? A team should like that should easily put away Basel, but we were very poor.

Vidic will be back though and less you forget we've only been beaten once away from home in the Champions League in the last 25 games. I'm sure we'll do the job, we made Basel look much better than they are at OT

I still expect us to qualify, but the likelihood of finishing second in the group is worrying when the teams we could get are:

Bayern Munich
Real Madrid
Inter Milan
Barcelona
Apoel Nicosia/Zenit (depending on who wins group G).

I think we'd all agree that the odds of avoiding Bayern, Real and Barca are not good, and I really don't think on current form we'd beat any of those three. We might beat Inter as they aren't the team they once were. We just have to hope we get really lucky and get a team from group G as that would be the easiest match.

But it is playing on a thursday. I know we then play on a sunday but it just would be a lot harder i think.

If we were in the Europa last year we would not have beaten utd in the semi. That is a fact.

I hope we just put out the kids if we get to Europa and just let them use it as experience.
