UEFA Champions League 22/23 November *** Spoilers ***

Napoli have got more or less the same side they had last season. A half strength Liverpool side, managed by Roy Hodgson went to Napoli last season and comfortably got a draw (should have won too) and beat them 3-1 at home. They're a decent side but not much more.

You'd think Napoli would be higher in Serie A if they were a very good team.

Then you'd think we would do better in Europe given we're 1st in the league.. Doesn't always tally up. They finished 3rd in Serie A last season. Napoli were the toughest team to draw from the 4th pot apart from perhaps Dortmund, who sold one of their linchpins and best players to RM. Our group could just have easily been Bayern, Villareal, Us and Otelu Galati (They were your groups 4th pot team right?). We'd have been second and it wouldn't even be an issue. If Napoli had been dropped into your group I'd be pretty confident of them leading it right now.

This will be pretty immaterial if we carry on with our league form though. I'm not worried about us not being in the CL next year, we'll learn from it and give it another crack then :)

erm no

Napoli are excelling in a group with teams far better than anything in Serie A so Shami's right you'd of thought they'd be leading their domestic league

Just because City are top in PL doesn't mean they should be doing equally as well in the CL if anything what the CL has highlighted is that City have struggled this season when given a proper test (against a team with 11 men)

This is a big week for City, I was always sure you'd beat Newcastle who like City have had a fairly easy start to the season but Napoli and Liverpool away were real tests, you've failed one will be interesting to see how you fair Sunday....

My point was that domestic form and european form doesn't always marry up. We've not just faced a load of rubbish teams so far, we're not just scraping a few 1-0 wins we don't deserve, we're setting records for one of the best starts to a league ever. Everyone is always talking about 'our big test is yet to come', and frankly it's getting a bit boring. Spurs was the test, then Everton, then Bayern (who no-one wins at anyway), then United (which you can kid yourself about 10 men if you like, but nothing excuses 6-1), then wait until they go behind first, wait until someone parks the bus, then this, then that.. We didn't do that badly in Napoli, we just lost. It happens. Even if we don't win at Liverpool, it doesn't mean anything bar we didn't win. Tough place to go, Liverpool generally play well against the big teams, plenty more games to make up any points lost. We beat them 3-0 at our place and they beat us 3-0 at theirs, we still finished higher and won a trophy. Even if we win the league someone will still find some big test that's yet to come..

It's funny that this is pretty much the first time we've really slipped up, and you're all jumping on it while you can because you've pretty much had no chance to criticize us so far :p

I don't think Man City did themselves any favours by playing last nights game at such a lethargic pace which seemed to suit Napoli.

I kept flicking between both Manchester matches and the difference in pace/urgency was massive.

Mancini said on the same level as Barca and Madrid and was most likely talking about league dominance etc.
.

Even if he was talking about league dominance, you will need to do it for season after season rather than just a few months before you are at the same level as Barca / Madrid

However good your squad is , you havent yet won a single league title collectively (let alone challanged or won numerous ones) to even consider mentioning yourselves in the same breath

(at the other end of the spectrum Bayern Munich have won loads of league titles, and yet I doubt they consider themselves on Barca /RM level)

Or put it another way entirely - Utd have won what 12 EPL titles in 20 years (and probably 19/20 times in the top 3), but its only been in the last four that Utd have consistantly done VERY well in Europe (Quarter's or Semi's isnt bad, but still not where Champions should be aiming for). Admittedly that doesnt include the Treble in 1999, but even so surely this proves that league dominance means squat in europe

Well I'm not sure who you've been talking to but so far PL wise you've had one real tricky fixture one that for large spells you were out played in for 45 minutes and then helped by the opposition going down to 10 men within 5 minutes of the second half. Whilst I don't doubt beating us 1-6 on our own patch is a real highlight for you it wouldn't of happened had it stayed at 11 a side and you know it (albeit you are correct 11 men or 10 men conceding twice in stoppage time is inexcusable especially against local rivals).

As for Spurs like us you were fortunate to get them at a very good time, you'd never put 5 past them again on their own patch again so as far as I'm concerned yes you have had an easier start to the season than United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs. If come Christmas once you've played 3 of those aforementioned sides and you're still top with a 5 point cushion then fair play but I've got my doubts

Chelsea team tonight:

Cech, Ivanovic, Luiz, Terry, Bosingwa, Ramires, Meireles, Lampard, Sturridge, Drogba, Mata.

Subs: Turnbull, Alex, Mikel, McEachran, Malouda, Kalou, Torres.

No Ashley Cole as he got a knock in training. Mikel and Malouda dropped from Sunday and Drogba gets his first CL start this season.

This has been bugging me for months but when did ITV loose the right to do the pre show in a studio?!?!?!?!

Really hope someone got fired for that choice... (same for Roy Kean the most over the top Irish man who hasn't lived there for 25 years)

I know we are playing at home but i swear it sounds like we are back in Germany...dear god those Dortmund fans are loud...all 7k of them lol...at least they have brought some noise to the Emirates...

Dortmund looking likely to score first, really are hustling Arsenal everytime we have the ball...

Is this on sky sports??

Iv seen better championship games than the Chelsea game so far, nothing has happened and no one looks like they have a change of actually doing anything :(
