UEFA Champions League 22/23 November *** Spoilers ***

Little point taking current form into the equation as come February a lot can have changed, that said I'd fancy our chances against Bayern, Inter and whoever wins group G. I've always thought the best chance against Barca is over two legs also not that I'd want to face them :D

Vidic will be back though and less you forget we've only been beaten once away from home in the Champions League in the last 25 games. I'm sure we'll do the job, we made Basel look much better than they are at OT

Fair point certainly, I just dont think its as predictable as others are trying to suggest - given our performance levels recently

on a brighter note , at least Basel HAVE to win (rather than play for a draw) to get the 2nd place in the group, which could work to Utd favour

Cant help but have a chuckle at City getting beat by Napoli lol...my mate asked me earlier tonight who was going to win and i said Napoli...he put £50 and made some good money on the result...so he owes me dinner:D

More surprised that Utd drew with Benfica....shocking result for Utd.

/ me off to watch Napoli beat City in the highlights :D:p

You aint a proper UTD player unless you make life hard for your team in a potential make or break game. Jones just had a bad night. Vidic and Rio have had them too.

Brilliant play by UTD last night. Just couldn't finish. Berbatov was superb. Starting to dislike Chico now to be honest, the other players really do need to change their game to suit his. Chico doesn't really have any dribbling skills. Just get him the box and hope he gets touch.

I think maybe Welbeck/Rooney might be the future... or Berba could make his way back into the squad.

Welbecks mostly crap, Berbatov is still pretty much your best player. Rooney LOOKS effective, he constantly runs around and he has great games, but football, or football fans, have changed. It used to be a truly brilliant football player, without much pace but a huge amount of skill was THE type of player everyone both wanted to be, and raved about.

These days its whoever runs about like a headless chicken the most and everyone else is crap.

Utd should have and should be building the team around a guy like Berbatov, as others said tonight, every touch was creating a chance or having a shot, thats what you want. Someone who touches the ball 500 times in a game, and passes forwards twice, is worthless but has become the type of player fans love to see.

I'd take Berbatov at Arsenal first over any other Utd player, in a heartbeat. Utd would be a better team, and Rooney would get more goals if he spent more time NOT being spotted by defenders, if he spent more time hanging around the back four and sneaking off behind their backs into space.

The year Rooney scored a heck of a lot, his only truly prolific "strikers" year, he was FAR less involved, massively so, he dropped deep rarely, he didn't randomly chase people around, he played a lot more like Berbatov.

If you're running after midfielder's the entire time, then what happens when your own midfield get the ball, rather than 2-3 targets up the field to pass to quickly, you'd have two strikers, standing next to you and no where to go.

Berbatov looks lazy to some people, but to me it looks like he's always in space, he doesn't needlessly chase people down, he stays in space, he's always available and even if it isn't the best pass there aren't many people in the world who will control it better anyway. He's also got a fantastic pass and fantastic vision, if he can't score, he'll make himself room and pass it into someone making a run.

derp where's berbatov. good question, that he is without doubt one of our most talented players makes me wonder why we have barely seen him this season and why fergie - the man who picked a croc to sit on the aberdeen bench couldn't pick our league top scorer for the bench against Barcelona...fail.

It's the bizarre contradiction with his attitude to him in the media compared to his attitude to him as a player. He keeps going on about how he is a truely brilliant player and he won't sell him.

I'm wrong there you go, give yourself a badge, perhaps mummy can stick it on.

lulz

Are you for real? You could have just said 'sorry, I made a mistake' at the very first instance and everyone would have just carried on but you had to drag it out with your retarded interpretation of the rules, insisting that you were right and everyone else was wrong...

Embarrassing from City, if they go out in the group stages, considering what they've spent to get this squad together, it'll be dreadful. They've looked so unconvincing and ordinary.

How was Berba superb if he fluffed the majority of his chances?

This is EXACTLY why Utd cant rely on him, he got one (fair play to him) but he should have finished off at least one other if not two. I fully admit this is partly down to who's available and team formation - which isnt his fault, but as a whole the Berba / Utd experiment was a complete fail (for the amount of money paid for him)

You realise of course Chico has won us our last two Prem games - so without him we would be several points down (and even with changes more goals werent scored) so its LUCKY we have him. He is still a youngster its takes time for young players to acclimatise to different players (esp those that He doesnt play regularly with, or hasnt for a while)

Ok its frustrating he gets so many off-sides (even though some seem to be mis-judged) but so did RvN , he could only play one way - but he was so good at it no one cared.

No chance at all Chico will not be part of the future for Utd.

As for Welbeck, he shows glimpses every now and then but still has a lot to prove, he has been around Utd for so long I keep on forgetting how young he still is. I personally dont think this season for him will be comparable to Chico's 1st last season, but I hope to be proven wrong. I have a feeling he will be a great Premiership player , but not necessarily at Utd (again I hope to be proven wrong).

Two reasons why Rooney scored a major amount - both of which have been absent for a while;

1) Valencia's crosses where very successful and Rooney was benefitting greatly from this. Valencia has had two pretty long /bad injury absences from the team since then, which cant have helped a lot, and due to this his confidence isnt where it was.

2) Rooney was also heading a lot of goals (which prior and since that year, has maybe not dried up, but isnt happening anywhere as often)

edit - Its also a little harsh imo to compare a 20 year old like Chicharito who cost £7m to a £30m+ 30 year old (ok 26ish when he was transferred) like Berba who are COMPLETELY different style / type of players. Teams need both styles......as long as they are both effective/ consistant in the long term

Even if City win they can go out cant they? Looks like they're relying on a team with 0 points so far....

Believe City going through is out of their hands directly yes

(serves them right for bragging last week /this week about being better than Barca - although it could have been the press "editing" quotes of course)

To be fair it would have been better if Spurs were in the CL this yr, last yr i thought they played really well to get as far as they did...compared to City who have spent far more on a squad that is in real danger of being dumped out of the CL.

Best i can see City getting is a draw against Bayern, unless Bayern decides to play a bunch of youngsters i cant see City beating them but then playing at home should give them a little bit of an advantage.

Mancini said on the same level as Barca and Madrid and was most likely talking about league dominance etc.

I have watched the game again and we didn't play that badly and plenty of chances to win the game. Barry should have started as NDJ has looked a shadow of himself. Aguero/Richards and Clichy should have started regardless of the game on Sunday. Why he went with the same back 4 that Napoli destroyed last time we played only he knows. Real tactical error from Mancini.

Villareal have a few players coming back and will always be a tough outfit at home, I think they could turn over Napoli, not very likely but not impossible.

Tbh I think any team from the prem would have struggled in our group.

Napoli and Bayern are very good teams and if they both dismantled a team that has been playing as well as we have then I am sure they would do well against any team from Prem.

At least if we do drop to Europa and it still is an if, we can boost our coefficent and hopefully reduce the chance of group of death.
