UEFA Champions League/Europa League 8/9/10 March *** Spoilers ***

I'm sorry, I'll risk the wrath of DM.

4-4-2 is a ****ing horrible tactic. Arsenal were a million times better first leg playing 4-5-1 come 4-3-3.

There. That and Xavi looks like Robert D Junior.

You know that the overall stats for the first leg posession wise, Barca had very similar total posession for the large majority of the first leg, we were completley outplayed for the vast majority of the first leg, when we played 4-5-1. After Bendtner came on, we played FAR closer to a 4-4-2, with the first goal coming from having Bendtner in the 6 yard box, and RVP shooting from about the edge of the 6 yard box, shock, 2 strikers, both basically miles ahead of everyone else, well within the penalty box, and we..... score.

When we play a decent team every single time RVP is completely isolated and gets none of the ball as he did tonight.

We played 4-5-1 for the 70 minutes of the first leg we were utterly utterly dominated. We had 32% posession tonight, away, at one of the hardest places to play in the world right now. At home, normally where we have 60-70% posession we came away with, 35 or 36% iirc, wow, and they had a goal dissallowed, Song should have been off 20-25mins into the first half, etc, etc. We were great with 4-5-1, pull the other one.

Arsenal and other fans play the 2-1 like we utterly thoroughly deserved it, we were marginally less badly outplayed in the first leg, marginally.

why will part of you cry if we do? i wanted arsenal to go through, i want as many uk teams in the cl as possible.
Because when Spurs do better than Arsenal in any competition, a small part of the world goes wrong. And you've already beaten us at the Grove this season. It'll be spinning backwards by tomorrow evening.

Nope still disagree DM :p

I think you deployed 4-5-1 to try and press and to a lesser extent contain Barca and then spring forward to 4-3-3.

Even with Bender on, you still looked to be plaything three up top and just got more people forward with the counter. You were FAR too narrow in the first leg to be playing 4-4-2 at any point, unless you played a very short 4 in the middle inside the centre circle :p

Any other arsenal fans be gutted if cesc left in the summer?

For me he isnt half the player he was last season, id like to see more of ramsey with wilshere in midfield.

Cesc is a great player but he shouldnt be captain imo hes not a leader, vermaeelen should have been first choice captain how we've missed him this year

you really do miss a leader. i'm not saying gallas would've made a difference tonight but he'd have towed the line of your defence who looked in pieces for the most part of the game.

ive got to disagree defence was one of our best points tonight they were solid for the most part but they can only hold out for so long when the midfield isnt stemming the attack

Snap. Would like to see a mass exodus of players in the summer to be honest. Clichy, Cesc, Rosicky, Diaby, Denillson and maybe RvP if we get proper money for him. A good centre back, left back, holding/defensive midfielder and a finisher. Goal Keeper wise we have a huge dilemma now. Woz is pretty good, Fab was doing well before injury, Almunia has had another cracker against Barcelona. Mannone isn't looking bad at Hull and then we have the young Englishman Shea.

Utter rubbish, he's dominated almost any game he's been fit for.

Saying he's not been as good because our manager consistanty rushes him back from injury(cough, tonight, again) when he's had the same hamstring issue for over a year, the only time he's played slightly badly has been when he's not match fit.

He was rubbish tonight, he didn't run at full speed once, he had no support from Diaby/Rosicky/Nasri, he rarely actually got the ball to try to control the game, only so much you can do if no one gives you the ball, RVP/Fabregas received SO few passes tonight. Yeah, cesc was worse than usual and he gave away the ball, but when you barely touch the ball for 10 minutes then get given a bad pass, and you're injured, you ain't going to be at your best.

We lose Cesc, the team will be massively worse. RVP is a great player but he doesn't dominate games, Cesc as a midfielder is so so far ahead of everyone else at the club its a joke, Wilshire is the only one approaching his level of influence and no, Wilshire can't replace Fabregas.

wilshere for me has already replaced cesc.

hes more influential for us nowadays than cesc and i will argue the point with anyone arsenal fan or not!

There comes a point when you have to seriously consider offers for your best players, if barca come knocking in the summer again then we should consider the option imo

Its like when ronaldo left utd, fergie did a good thing there, utd made a lot of money and it allowed nani to mature and become better.

Cesc moves over and we either get another DM in to replace or it allows ramsey to mature in the first team like wilshere did.

Diaby, bendtner and rosicky need to go

Yup, they were solid, except the time after time after time they made mistakes, conceded a penalty, got left off by poor finishing and saw their attackers make runs beyond Djourou/Kos embarassingly easily.

Oh wait.......... no, our defence wasn't good tonight, better finishing/worse keeping and that scoreline could have been 4-5 goals higher than it was, that doesn't dictate a good game.

The problem with Djourou/kos is technically they are good players, they can tackle well, but both make consistant massive errors, every game, without fail. Should we mention that for the third goal Djourou faced with Messi was it still 5 yards away, standing almost still, just fell back on his ass? Kos and the penalty, Kos and the yellow card, both of them caught flat a dozen or more times with Villa/Pedro/Messi running beyond them.
