UEFA Champions League/Europa League 8/9/10 March *** Spoilers ***

EDIT: Regardless mate, people say it all the time. Apparently it's perfectly fine to play a bit physically and defend against us, but as soon as we do the same against a team that are utterly destroying everyone they meet, it's sour grapes? Nah, sorry, not buying it.

When a section of your support speak out against that type of football so often and even some of your players have publicly criticised clubs for playing that type of football, it's predictable that it'll get thrown back in your face when you play that way.

Not that I've said it myself. I said earlier in the thread that Arsenal would have been better with Chamahk and Arshavin starting and playing a more direct game.

harsh red but arsenal didn't show up. zero shots on target? fabregas hardly rose to the ocassion either. arsenals defence got split time and time again.

I think Arsenal were trying to do what one of the commentators said, keep Barca at bay for as long as possible, leave them to tire, then hit them on the counter later on, especially because a number of the Arsenal team were injured, just come back etc..

And tbh I think the only way of getting any kind of result at the Nou Camp is counter attacking football.

I think that just played a fast pacey front three (much like they did in the first leg) would have worked MUCH better, Chamahk with the target / holding player.

It's never acceptable to Arsene when a smaller team does it to him.
Hot damn. Manager criticises opposing team in order to deflect from any criticism. Stop the press right not. This is important news.

I don't see what all the drama is about, there isn't a team in the premiership that will live with Barca at home and not get a complete drubbing.
Won't get me arguing with that. The better team won, that much is true. What I have an issue with is all the trolls going "you didn't deserve anything from that match, lol get over it."

None of the EPL top midfields will be able to contain or hold the ball well enough not to get over run. I personally don't see what over option he had other than try to park the bus.
I dunno, I'm gonna write to Wenger tomorrow and ask him how far that Wilshere cloning project is going. I reckon that might sort us.

Nah, there's a curious thing typical it has to be said mainly of Arsenal fans, they seem to celebrate when for some reason one of their players does something about the spirit of the game. A player dives and it's 'yes, it's about time WE had a player willing to take a tumble to match all those others' similar for bad tackles or niggling. I wonder sometimes if their complaints are simply to set up that future carte blanche.

It's because in all our other games, we attack when we're loosing, we attack when we're drawing and we attack when we're winning. We looked like we were trying to shut barca out (inter style) and everyone knows we are simply incapable of keeping them silent at home.

RvP staying on could have changed the game, also remember that Arshavin came on AFTER he was sent off. Arshavin would have provided much more support for RvP than Rosicky.

Support suggests someone for RVP to pass to, that would have required RVP to have the ball, something which he never did. Arshavin would have done better but Rosicky was FAR from the worst midfielder playing, the fact the game was going the wrong way, Fabregas was a HUGE risk to play at all today, and we are still in the shout for the league with Utd playing like such turd, taking off Fabregas was the obvious choice. You can't play Barca when they are playing well, with two central midfielders who can't or won't run, Rosicky was the only central midfielder(except Wilshire who was DM) who had ANY legs from the start of the game.

That decision in itself shows just how utterly stupid Wenger can be.

Revista la liga on now and they are saying the same thing Valencia, Espanyol and Villareal all got in their faces and had them rocked

It took a Jose Inter team to defend so well to beat them in that fashion and Arsenal can not do that.

I know hes not spoken of highly but Guillem Balague summed it up well, 14 years for Arsene at Arsenal now playing a possession game and they come against Barcelona and didn't even do that.

Seems like 14 years wasted when he tries to change his style of play and philosophy for a single game

ACtually that I don't agree with firstly Arsenal basically started the game with, being generous, 9 players really playing, 11 players would have made a huge difference, however the red card had smeg all to do with that.

Time and time again, big game, play your best players with a formation that suits. That doesn't mean if you have 4 world class CB's you drop two strikers, but drop a very good striker for a epic fail of a midfielder, its laughable.

Again posession stats are almost the same as the first leg, at home we were battered in posession, they were all over us for much of the game, we scored two goals and dominated when we played 4-4-2 with two strikers and got at them ffs.

Barca aren't at another level, when you concede half the pitch, play an injured player and a guy who just doesn't know how to play football in the most important area of the pitch, of course Barca looked great.

Did Barca look at another level when we played 4-4-2 and played in their half in the first leg, not even close, did we look the better side for that 20minutes, easily. Its a game of two halves, literally, two halves of the pitch, if you only play in the half they want to play in, you've lost, play them in the half they don't want you to play them in, win win.

Bendtner won ball after ball when he came on in the first leg, he did the same last season, he did the same with the two he got when Wenger finally bought him on, he'd have done the same for 90minutes if he'd started.

Did you really play 4-4-2? I thought you played a very compact 4-5-1 when Barca had the ball and would quickly spring forward to a 4-3-3 when counter attacking? It worked very well first leg.

Wenger, for whatever reason played an unfit Cesc, and changed an attack (and almost system) that worked well, Striker to hold it and a good fast supporting attack.

I thought that Arsenal set up to try and defend / stop Barca played tonight, which was a shame as I wanted to see Arsenal attack much like they did in the first leg.

I think Arsenal were trying to do what one of the commentators said, keep Barca at bay for as long as possible, leave them to tire, then hit them on the counter later on, especially because a number of the Arsenal team were injured, just come back etc..

Which side looked to tire first, the one who dominated the game or the one that were chasing shadows? If that was their plan it was a stupid plan.
And tbh I think the only way of getting any kind of result at the Nou Camp is counter attacking football.

Yet the only English side that's beat them is Liverpool and we done so by playing Kuyt and Bellamy up front, pressing them as high up the pitch as possible and exposing their only weakness - their defense.

To sit off Barca is suicide. Even if you defend well, they're too good and will always create chances against you. It's a risk but you've got to be brave against Barca and try and take the game to them as often as possible.

So basically this is all jakeke's fault?

Oh well. I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised that making fun of opposing fans should have come above actually analysing the match. This is football, after all.

I agree in part with what Baz said, but the counter attacking style Arsenal adopted in the first leg clearly worked, but for whatever reason wasn't used again tonight.

How did we score two goals against Barca before then, quite simple, don't play them in midfield.

Theres a choice, you can stand still in midfield and wait to lose the ball, or, you know, you can NOT do that. Both are choices, how did we not do that in 20 mins in the first leg and get goals, we knocked it upfront quickly, Barca aren't good at backpedling and chasing the ball back because, frankly they just aren't used to it, few teams make them bother.

You do not have to play them in their strongest area, matching a team in their strongest area just weakens you in your own strongest area.

Again, Bendtner won every long ball to him tonight, the first leg when he came on, and last year, he does it against loads of teams, not only that but both his headers went straight to Arsenal players tonight. So its quite simple, can't beat them in midfield, don't try, you can beat them at the back, so play them there. It sounds overly simple you think, it can't work, yet, errrm, it did three times, home leg last year, home leg this year and we got a goal away at Nou Camp last year by knocking it long for Theo who gave it to Bendtner and they couldn't cope with getting back in time.

It IS that simple, it really is. Concede midfield, let them have it, let them look at the sky as the ball sails over them in midfield and have our midfield rush forwards onto Bendtner's knockdown.

There has been little to no making fun of Arsenal fans

If anything I think it's been pretty calm in here, no Spurs fans come in making jibes or anything.

No, no, you don't realise DM's methodology yet.

We play well: Must be playing 4-4-2

We play badly: 4-5-1
