UEFA Champions League/Europa League 8/9/10 March *** Spoilers ***

Yes thanks to a lucky OG, the denial of a possible pen in the first half and a wrongly disallowed goal in the first leg

But that doesn't change the facts though surely?

We could all go back and look at games we lost and pick out those moments.

What if the linesman had a clue for the Arshavin goal at the weekend? What if Chamakh hadn't of hit the bar? He didn't so we got 1 point instead of 3, thats life.

Ultimately when RvP got sent off we were winning the tie. As I said before, I still think we would have gone out, but I don't think we would have capitulated in the way we did. It was also noticable that in the last 10-15, Nasri ran down the left channel two or three times with no one to pass to.

Which pundit said that? Wow that's utter nonsense.

Anyone who thinks we could have out-played Barca last night are just in lala land.

We were leading the tie after 146 minutes weren't we? The setup seemed to be working ok up until then.

Indeed, and for as good as Barca were they only scored 2 goals up until RvP's red, I do think Arsenal deserve more credit

Before the tie people were basically expecting a white wash, Arsenal made it much closer than that

You are clutching at straws really.

Never a truer word said:p

Meh i dont know why people are still arguing about the game....we werent going to beat them at home....hardly any team does that to Barca...sure having 11 men would have been better but even with 10 men i thought we did pretty ok-ish but the writing was on the wall...we got gifted a goal by Busquets to keep us in the game but it was only a matter of time before the inevitable happened.

I take no great shame in us losing to the best team in the world at the moment...anyone who says otherwise is quite simply deluded really. Hell id be more narked off if it was Utd we lost to or something....saying that i hope that at the weekend we can put this loss to some good use and give Utd a beating but frankly even thats a tall order somewhat:p.

Just as a thing for you guys arguing over the first half, ESPN shows a total of 8 shots in the first 45 with one goal.

* Oh and it looks like Wenger has been charged.

DM I don't even know why I'm responding to you, because I think you're an idiot when it comes to slating your own team. But sod it, I'm on my lunch.

Is this even a joke, standing off them, like Diaby did, just let them stand inside our half, still without being closed down as Pedro/Messi/Iniesta ran along the back line and waited for a pass in behind, thats how we conceded two at home last season, thats EXACTLY how we conceded those goals and Barca created a half dozen chances from that in the first half alone.

Look at the goals you conceded at home and away last season. Your centrebacks rushing out to close down a player, leaving Ibrahimovic to run through and score two goals. Standing off them like yesterday and making them have to find the gaps makes far more sense than a gung ho close them all down at all costs.

Our gameplan was working, lol, the first leg, despite Arsenal fans forgetting, was around 64-65% posession for Barca, we stood off them, they scored and had another bad night infront of goal, in the second half when we dominated them we pushed forwards, we closed them down, we most certainly in no way "stood off them" standing off them is EXACTLY what lets Barca play their football, getting in their faces and in their half especially is exactly what made them screw up passes and lose posession.

The gameplan was working (ish). You were ahead (with a bit of luck, as I mentioned) and the crowd were getting extremely frustrating and on their team's back. This has an effect on players that are desperately trying to chase a goal. It happened last season when they faced Inter. They started shooting from distance and getting very frustrated. When you get frustrated you try harder than you have to to score and neglect other duties, such as defence. As I said, Barcelona made it very difficult for Arsenal to do any countering at any stage when they had 11 on the field but there is no way that they wouldn't have left gaps chasing a game where they needed to score. They leave gaps when they don't have to score..

no one is saying that Arsenal had control of the game. When you sit back and try to contain a lead, you don't necessarily control the game as you don't have the ball. You just try to control your defensive duties properly and hope for a break going forward if the opportunity presents itself. Arsenal got the lucky break with the goal but not the red card decision.

But lets hope the majority of Arsenal fans continue with the "ref stole it from us" mantra, so no one gets angry at the retarded Wenger who made every single wrong decision on the night, starting line up, tactics, subs. Wenger needs to go, these games go the SAME WAY every single ruddy time, for 5 years, and Wenger hasn't learnt from a single one of these games, he hasn't learnt from a single "play injured player and watch it backfire" mistake he's made of which the last 5 seasons are littered with dozens.

Wenger out, competant manager with some balls and less excuses in, Arsenal have a squad that can win things.

Your dislike for Wenger is incredible.

From what I can see, no one in here is disputing that Barcelona deserved to go through. They are the better team and play incredible football. The only thing people are arguing is that they don't need to have it handed on a plate to them like it was last night.

Whoever put their hand around RVP's throat, surely that's at least a yellow card? Maybe I missed that?

Arsenal were outplayed, and the better team won the tie. It's just a shame that such an incompetent referee ruined it and any critisism aimed at him results in punishment. Simply embarrasing on Uefa's behalf.

No surprise there...anytime a manager criticises a ref or officials he gets charged...dont really think Wenger is that fussed tbh much like Fergie at Utd.

The ref was a jackarse but i dont think thats really any excuse to blame the defeat on him...sure he shouldnt have sent off RVP for that kick as its the first ive heard of someone being sent off for that...but from what i have read and heard about the game....we just werent and arent good enough....it was in the Sun this morning i think where i read that the difference between Barca and Arsenal is that we sign average french players and Barca go out and sign world class players....this summer nothing will change mark my words...we wont sign any world class GK or defensive players, which is what we desperately need...Squillaci and Kos arent good enough, fair enough Kos is still young and could develop into a decent defender...problem with Wenger is that hes far too pig headed now and stuck in his ways....who knows there might be a surprise with regards to making a decent signing but i doubt it will happen.

Me, and if they get through, Spurs vs Barcelona would turn me on.

I said this yesterday, I think they'd probably lose but their pace on the counter would be very interesting.

I think Arsenal missed Walcott yesterday, they could have just left him in Barca's half and hoofed it to him, could have been productive.

Spurs would get destroyed by Barcelona. Our defence has looked very suspect against one-two through balls in Europe this season. Having said that, if there's any weaknesses in the Barcelona team it's the defensive capabilities of their full-backs. Bale and Lennon might get a few chances.

There's an interesting interview with Clarence Seedorf on the BBC website. Quite an honest assessment of Milan really. I bet their fans are gutted that Pirlo won't be playing.
