UEFA Champions League/Europa League 8/9/10 March *** Spoilers ***

just wide.............about 5 ft, nothing close about that header at all

He loses too much possession in the midfield , gives away too many free kicks, in every other area of the pitch to make him worthwhile for a single header that wasnt even close to hitting the target

Utd might as well play with 9 outfield players (or 8 given how invisible depay was most of the night) with Fellaini on the pitch

It wasn't five foot and he was still United best player last night.

He should be banned anyway, id of thought UEFA will step in.

Slept on it and yep. Awful performance by a group of awful players.

can't really think of one positive contribution from schneiderlin. Carrick again pretending to be a footballer. Dont tell me hes a midfielder trapped in the body of a defender. He should know that around the 6 yard box to kick the ball away - not to an opponent.

Depay free kick made Liverpools finishing look tidy and accurate. Again. No one else showed anything positive. Apart from the keeper who was an unfortunate passenger in this car crash of a performance.

Paul Scholes is quickly becoming the latest rent a quote:

Manchester United were "shambolic" and had no plan during their 2-0 Europa League defeat at Liverpool, says former United midfielder Paul Scholes.

Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino scored, with only keeper David de Gea preventing a heavier first-leg loss.

Scholes, who made 718 appearances for United, told BT Sport that the Old Trafford club "have certain standards and they have fallen well short".

He added: "Liverpool had a way of playing. United didn't have a clue."

"Manchester United should be competing to win the Premier League and Champions League every season," said Scholes.

"They have spent £300m and they are sixth in the league. They have ended up in the Europa League after failing in a poor Champions League group. They should be competing with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

"I hope none of the players comes out saying sorry on Twitter. Stop talking on social media and start playing.

"The last thing I want for Manchester United is to be happy with finishing fourth and winning the FA Cup. That's what Arsenal do."

I agree with the twitter stuff, when they tell the world how much it hurts after playing with zero heart but Scholes for me is the most over rated player, granted when he was young he looked like he would become an all time great but for some reason I don't get his reputation. He barely scored goals with the consistency of a gerrard or lampard, couldn't tackle and wasn't that great at assists either.

LvG will no doubt ignore the performance and have a moan about Scholes when he next gets a chance.

Why don't they just sack him already. I'd much rather have, well, anyone else...!

First it's 'progress' and now we're 'living in the past' so we should accept the future as no top 4, record breaking seasons for the wrong reasons, unable to compete at the bare minimum in either of the European competitions, Fellani as a first team footballer and wasteful transfers. We're up the philosophical creek with no paddle.....boat, arms, legs, eyes or a brain! :(

Because no one decent except Jose wants it and it's becoming clear that quite a bit of voice at Old Trafford isn't keen on that. I think with the emergence of City and Chelsea still having vast amounts of money to spend it's become the job anyone with half a brain want's to steer clear of.

Whatever you do the money won't be lavished as freely as the others two and hundreds of millions will be spent to be constantly told Fergie did it better and cheaper.

I think United are going to have to put the faith and backing behind someone who is not one of the top 10 managers in the world and rebuild from there. Let's be honest if there was anyone half decent wanting the job LVG would be long gone regardless of what they had to pay to get rid.

Ginger Xavi.

Lol Scholes, the sense of entitlement from that ginger tit is astounding. But yeh when the chips are down, just deflect and have a snipe at Arsenal who manage to qualify for CL every yr and have managed to win the FA cup back to back. Which I don't recall Utd ever doing??

Sense of entitlement? He is the most decorated English player of all time is he not? Played in incredibly successful Manchester United teams.

He was clearly devastated by the result (and performance), and rightly so. Manchester United were dire last night, and have been for a while now.

Oh man those back to back FA cup wins, memorable stuff :p

Lets be honest he was never close to ever being being the best player in the side, he just had longevity. Was there ever a season where he was the best United player over a season?

Phil Neville won more than Shearer, I think despite the decorations I know who I'd rather have :D;)
