UEFA Euro 2012 - Quarter-finals - ** spoilers **

There might not be any ball flight though? A player could be running with the ball along the ground, gets to the penalty area, gets tripped up by an opponent or he simply slips before having booted the ball. Doesn't sound very fool proof to me.

What are you talking about

Goal line technology tracks the movement of the ball, doesn't matter if a player is dribbling, kicking or a stray pigeon has nodded it on. It's nothing to do with trips or slips, that's not what the technology is for. It's to judge whether the ball has crossed the line or not.

That's true. Good job its being used as "goaline technology"

Yes I know, but when that portugese player slipped and put his hands up swearing he was fouled, the commentator said it's really time for goal line technology, or alluded to something to that effect. Confused me because I thought it was just for the reason you mentioned.

I might enjoy this a little more if the commentators were not talking such utter **** at every opportunity. They are literally rubbing one out when Ronaldo has the ball.

If Portugal ever want to do well at a major tournament, they need to start playing as a team and get Ronaldo to stop stropping every time a team mate doesn't get the ball to him. He will give the ball away quite happily and it was the other players fault for not being where he wanted them.

Well if 'inside the box technology' is brought in it will most likely be the fourth official reviewing replays of the incident on the sidelines and then giving the decision.

The commentator was probably just referring to using technology in general.
