I'm Scottish so I genuinely don't care much for the result, although I would have preferred to see England go through.
But..... to be honest I AM angry at this cack we are expected to watch and enjoy. People pay good money to watch football. They don't want to see this defensive drivel. It does actually make me angry and I wish fans would make a stand and not pay to watch it.
I love football but recently I find the tactics disgusting.

Not much you can do with only weeks in charge before a major tournament. I dont agree with his appointment or more the timing of it, but I doubt its worthwhile judging him on this tournaments performance...

No I agree, he does need more time but he should have at least been more adventurous and given it a go.
What have we learnt from this tournament that we didn't know already?

If buffon dives the other way its a goal, atleast he gave himself a chance of scoring.
Look at pirlos he tapped it and if Joe heart hadn't dived that to would have been saved. First thing I was ever taigh about taking penalties was put it on target.
The team needs re-shaping before the world cup. There are enough young midfielders and wide men to build a good team around we just need a new shearer
You don't think that Pirlo watched for Hart to commit himself and then dinked it down the middle? That's what it looked like from where I was sitting.
Credit to England for managing to take it to penalties but the Italians were profligate in the extreme in front of goal.
You mean he can only gel with world class players, not average ones?

Happens every time, Rooney is clearly not match fit but gets thrown in to a major tournament as our saviour. Only going to end one way.

Right now, there is no English player who is capable of being a Shearer.
Shearer was fantastic in front of goal and he was also a great leader.
exactly he gets to start all the time and he has done nothing , only done stuff for utd, you should not decide a player that plays with forien players is going to play good with english ones, this where england are going wrong time and time again...

Anyone who has seem him on form for Man Utd knows what sort of a force he can be, he wasn't even half of that in this tournament.
It's unfair to single him out. The midfield behind him aren't good enough and he wasn't in good shape coming in to these games. You could have Messi up front but with our midfield he'd be struggling.
Wouldn't you just slot it in the other side if that was the case?

I reckon he did it to swing confidence towards Italy. He deserves even more credit for that penalty.
The more you progress through a tournament at club level or International level, the more you see the midfield is key.
Scott Parker is just not good enough at this level. Young and Milner are getting a lot of stick and rightly so. When they had the ball they did naff all. That said England didn't have anyone who could put their foot on the ball and dictate play like a Pirlo or Schweinsteiger or a Xavi.
Blame Hodgson all you want but the best English players are often being produced outside the Premiership. Money is stifling development of good talent and the Cream is getting no chance to rise.

Please read again, i said both wenger etc would need 2-4 years to rebuild the england team, not 2-4 months
yes in 2-4 years they can, especially if you use hungry up and comming young players instead of big ego ***** like Terry and co.
Look at Germany and Spain. if they can do it, so can we if we have the time and patience and the rigth manager/setup to do so.
Klinsman and the current german manager all had a blueprint plan to completely transform germany into a more attacking attractive side and it took them 3+ years to achieve it.
Klinsman the other day said this himself in a recent interview, saying how he had to completely strip and dismantal and start again with the german national side for them to become more visious and attractive as a attacking side.
Before, Germany where known for just being rock solid in defence, playing as one unit and getting the job done. no fancy one touch passing, none of this barca type football. just pure hard work and discipline. That is what Germany where known for there football but thanks to Klinsman and co, they have transformered the german team into a team that does that and more.
This is why i believe Germany will not only win the euro's but possibly the world cup in 2014.
It takes TIME to develope a national side. it cant be done overnight and i aint saying that am i. i even said that even if they employed wenger or morinho instead of roy, england would have still got knocked out tonight as it takes years not months to build a succesful national side.
England DO HAVE quality players. You cannot come to me and say Gerrard, Terry, Hart, Cole, Rooney are all **** average players when week in week out they wipe the floor in the EPL, they are all world class players, you just need a manager to work with them for a couple of years not months.
to say English players are **** is complete and uttter nonsense. They fantastic players individualy, they just need to be developed as a national side better.
Whether roy can do this i do not know but IMO the FA need to stick with him until the next world cup or get rid of him as in now and bring on a world class manager that can start a fresh.

Spain might play boring football at times but we could learn a heck of a lot from them. From a technique point of view, our players just aren't up to it. In my opinion, the sooner we can start blooding players like Wilshere and Cleverley the better. It won't make us a way better team, but they do seem to have more technical ability on the ball than our current CMs.

You're kidding right?
No England went into the match knowing that Italy are a much better team. England held on until penalties yes they never got much in the way of attacking but they showed courage and determination to prevent the Italy team from scoring you have to play as a team to do this. A lot of people would have believe italy would beat england in open play.
