UEFA Euro 2012 - Quarter-finals - ** spoilers **

Well Cole can hold his head high in the fact he played well throughout the tournament, I can't think of a single thing Young did that helped the team. I don't really know why he started tonight, has been terrible.

Future looks good for England with Roy so FA better give him a longer chance, but Gerrard and Parkers boots are going to be pretty hard to fill.

England played to their strengths in defence throughout the tournament. Gutting to go out in penalties, especially when you get such an increased chance of going through.

IT'S ALL ROY'S FAULT!!111

:p

I agree that England definitely have good defence. This has always been their strength.

*awaits it being Rooney, Young or Welbeck's fault*

It's no particular player's fault.
As a unit, England just aren't good enough.
I think for England to become World beaters, they need a top class manager like Mourinho. Other than that, I can't see how they can ever compete against the top teams.

Mourinho likes to play unattractive, defensive football and I think his style would suit the England players.

Roy Hodgeson's appointment seems completely pointless to me. I can't see him winning many games with England.

Hodgson wont last long.

Hope not. With expectations so low this time around it was a perfect opportunity to play more youngsters and develop a new style etc, imo he bottled it before the tournament began. He seemed to be scared of the media and the response he would get and played it ultra safe.

If Hodgson took a load of changes in, he'd get blamed a hell of a lot worse if they bombed out early for not picking the seasoned players. At least now the tournament is out we can probably start to pick the younger players as there isn't a major tournament to go to.

What? You could put more power on the penalty than you would a pass to a team mate 2 metres away...

If buffon dives the other way its a goal, atleast he gave himself a chance of scoring.
Look at pirlos he tapped it and if Joe heart hadn't dived that to would have been saved. First thing I was ever taigh about taking penalties was put it on target.
The team needs re-shaping before the world cup. There are enough young midfielders and wide men to build a good team around we just need a new shearer

I think Hodgson has done well, considering the lack of options we have in midfield we have ground out some good results. The players just aren't good enough.

End of the day we gave it a go but it would have been a travesty if we'd won tonight as we were totally outclassed.

I had no expectations coming into this tournament think England have done about as well as they deserved too to be honest. Roys done an ok job working with the players he's got available.

Not much you can do with only weeks in charge before a major tournament. I dont agree with his appointment or more the timing of it, but I doubt its worthwhile judging him on this tournaments performance...

ps3ud0

Roy's style of play is very unadventurous.
With Capello, you know that you are going to statistically, do well. As England manager, he has one of the best records in England history. Roy - I just can't see what he is going to do?

You need to find a system which suits the players (which is different to club football, where you can buy players to suit the system) and the manager has to be clever in the system he uses.

I think the main takeaway from this tournament is that England don't have a midfield.

Defence is fine, and if you give anyone plenty of chances upfront, they will score.

A two man midfield is the first problem.
The second problem was telling Parker to be the more advanced of the two.
The third problem was telling Gerrard to continually fill in at LB for Cole.

Such a waste.
