UEFA Euro 2012 - Quarter-finals - ** spoilers **

Possession

Eng 39 - 61 Italy

Passes completed

Eng 320 - 815 Italy

Shot at goal

Eng 9 - 35 Italy

On target

Eng 4 - 20 Italy

Those stats show just how much Italy dominated. The pass completion - is that some sort of record? I think we were swooning over Spain hitting 600+.

2 games without Rooney: 4 goals.
2 games with Rooney 1 goal.

We do seem to struggle to score with him in the team, not saying he's a bad striker he just doesn't seem to suit the national team.

England played to their strengths in defence throughout the tournament. Gutting to go out in penalties, especially when you get such an increased chance of going through.

IT'S ALL ROY'S FAULT!!111

:p

England need a manager like Wenger or Pep. they would although need 2-4 years to build a complete new english team from the ground up who will be taught how to play football properly with flair and passion.

Even if we diddnt get Roy and got Wenger, Pep or Morinho instead, it is not enough time to teach these players to play proper barca style football. I dont know if Roy is the right man to do it.

Can Roy now get rid of Rooney. terry and gerrard and stick to his guns with the youngsers and actually build a team around walcott, Ox, Wilshere, Henderson and TEACH them how to play possesion football?

Does Roy have the balls to do that?

So let's get this right, Hodgson or Wenger or Guidiola is going to get a maximum of two - three weeks with the England squad per season and that will make them into 'Barca'

Get a grip.

Players are not good enough, simple as that.

In the 2 months they spend together every year before they go back to their clubs where they spend the vast majority of their time.

What do you think...?

In my humble opinion, we'd be better off keeping away from 4-4-2 and packing out the midfield.

Without the ball, our best players just become rapidly tired. Outnumbered in midfield and unable to close down, we're never going to get it back and we'll never beat a top side playing like that. At least we'd stand a bit more of a chance with more players in midfield.

:(

4-4-2 in tournament football.. no, 4-4-2 in any type of football .. no place for it.
The two CM's have to work too hard, end up knackered, and you never end up with that 'extra' man to press, forcing you deep.
