Typical England game. Play reasonable first half, then in second half barely able to string a pass together.
I *hope* in the coming year, we have a good clear out in the squad. Definitely now time to take off the old and try the new, and get them experienced for World Cup 2014. Same problems as World Cup 2010, and that is because we still have some of that team left over and a formation that doesn't really work. A different formation would be nice. For the speed in which we play, 4-4-2 and 4-4-1-1 doesn't really suit us. We should play 4-3-2-1 but we need to build a new team first and get them experienced like Germany and used to playing together.
I can see we didn't have a lot of choices coming into the competition and to be fair we did OK with what we had (considering it was expected that we would never get out of the groups) but now it's time to start from scratch and build a new squad. First and foremost, build a new midfield with new young players. The lack of midfield really showed again tonight, and as good as Gerard is he is trying to be like 3 players at once which is near impossible and overly demanding. I don't think it matters that we don't have anyone young and amazing to instantly replace player like Gerard, we just need fresher legs who can keep the momentum going in the midfield. And less hoofing it up to the front expecting someone to get it each time.
Anyway, that's enough from me. I think we all know the problems with the England team.
