UEFA Euro 2012 - Quarter-finals - ** spoilers **

First deluded England fan of the night on 5 Live... surprising to hear one so late into the night!

I don't really know about football at the under 13s level, but is training really not focussed on basics at that level? Of course it is. Why are they focussing on that?

Something along the lines of ;

We were unlucky
Penalties is a lottery
We tried hard and showed real fight
We can do it in 2 years

?

In fairness to the players it's just not how Roy plays. We've had far more ball possession in previous tournaments but Roy likes to defend deep and play on the counter which will never produce high possession statistics.

That would account for the number of attempted passes being low maybe but the completion rates still shouldn't be so low - Milner didn't even manage 50%, that's just flat out lack of ability, not the managers preferred style.

So has rooney actually had a good tournament for england so far? People were critising ronaldo but he has dragged surely a worse portgual team to the next round and also portugal have beaten england in various cups over the last decade or so..

Portugal aren't worse than England. You could remove Ronaldo from that side and they'd still not be worse (might struggle for goals mind)

We didn't really attack in numbers though so our options were limited and it usually fell to the player to create something out of nothing.

I facepalmed when I saw Ashley Young come out to take a penalty... what an idiotic decision. I know, let's have the worst player of the tournament take an important penalty, good idea!

Ronaldo, Nani, Moutinho, Meireles.

Surely we have a better keeper, better defenders, midfielders and attackers..? Ronaldo being one of the few exceptions, and maybe nani but then you do have detractors for him saying that ashley young is the one.

Then to finish had a guy on banging on about when England beat Germany 5-1.

That was 11 years ago and an utter anomaly, Heskey even scored in that one ffs it's time to move on nearly as bad as keep going on about 1966!

All in all I think we did better than expected in this tournament, considering we were probably the worst team in our group.

Its a hard pill to swallow but England just get worse as our players age and the replacements are not even as good as the fairly average players that went before.

Too many of the current crop of players are missing too much from their game, and even if they played at their best they still wouldn't be good enough to go any further.

You need only look at the number of 'through balls' that people like Parker were lumping well beyond the reach of anyone at all to see it's not just a lack of options that causes such stats though, useless attemps at things like that are contributing too.

They had Janker playing for them. Enough said.

Considering we didn't qualify for Euro 2008 and had a disastrous world cup, lots of injuries, Capello rage quitting, The Harry Redknapp saga and John Terry/Rio Ferdinand race row I think we have had a good tournament.

I'm excited for England under Roy, I can't wait to see Hart, Walker, Smalling, Jones, Wilshire, Moses and Carrol in 2014 in Brazil.

No:confused:

Defense maybe we're better but they are much, much stronger in midfield and that's where it counts. Attack we're stronger but our midfield is so poor that we might as well have no-one up front.
