UEFA Euro 2012 - Quarter-finals - ** spoilers **

At this rate jake livermore and Harry kane will be getting call ups...

I cannot see the fuss about wellbeck. He is **** for manure and **** for England. He is young and English and plays for a big club so he walks into the England team regardless of ability
The positives for me were Jo Hart and Glen Johnson. Hart looked massively assured after the first game and Johnson actually started defending.

You need only look at the number of 'through balls' that people like Parker were lumping well beyond the reach of anyone at all to see it's not just a lack of options that causes such stats though, useless attemps at things like that are contributing too.

Tis a good point, idiots look at the likes of Rooney and Welbeck and because they don't have goals besides their names they're to blame (almost like they should be going on mazy runs and scoring all on their own), the problem lies further down the pitch and the lack of service, ability on the ball and composure, even the defence opt to just lump the ball out of play/up the field rather than try to build an attack. Watch how often Spain and German lump it up field....

Surely we have a better keeper, better defenders, midfielders and attackers..? Ronaldo being one of the few exceptions, and maybe nani but then you do have detractors for him saying that ashley young is the one.

Keeper? Yes
Defence? The one we took to this tournament, No. Overall and going forward, Yes
Midfield? The one we took to this tournament, No. Overall and going forward, maybe
Attack? No.

I agree with what you're saying, however Rooney was dump tonight, I think those 2 missed games affected him badly.

Was quite happy with Wellbeck considering he was feeding on scraps in every game.

Hey we even saw Italy do it. If it wasn't for poor finishing, a lot of their plays were pretty good and looked threatening.

Italy aren't a great side imo, England could have beaten them easily if it wasn't for the brain damage most of them have when it comes to playing for the national side

Player wise our defence man for man is much better than portugals. Ashley cole, John Terry, Jolean are all on what 100k-200k a week? surely those portugal defenders are not the same.

Midfield, Gerard must be considered better than mereiles and Lampard better than moutinho? Nani? i rate him, many dont, ashley young is he better? probably not. Ronaldo stands out.
up front surely rooney is a better player than heldar postiga?

This is the thing, suddenly people are saying Italy are a decent side because they beat us...? Theyre the poorest Italian side in recent memory. Germany are going to absolutely destroy them, as they would us.

Yeah I didnt have a big issue with Welbeck, he did well for what he was provided with. We just are overrun in the midfield so can never adequately support the STs when they do get the ball so its not their fault they lost possession so easily. I blame the formation first before Id look at individual midfielders - 442/4411 just isnt flexible/intelligent enough nowadays...

ps3ud0

carroll was ****.

Don't know what game you were watching at all.

Also it makes me laugh when people say these players have no ability, Then how the heck do they play in arguably the best league in the world for some of the top teams in the world? This one perplexes me totally.

England's defence is better than the Portaguese but their tactical setup isn't. That's the difference.

Poor with the ball at his feet. Did well to head the ball on from long balls, but that wasn't really an effective strategy.

Gerrard isn't better than Mereiles and Moutinhi imo. Lampard is a type of player who needs a good team around him, but I do rate him at what he does. Nani and Valencia are better than Young for Man Utd.

Should I feel dirty for literally chuckling out loud when Pirlo chipped his pen in?

To be fair Italy would have been mugged had England gone through, we just didn't seem to get anything going after the first 2mins of the 2nd half. At the end the only threat we seemed to have was punts up to Carroll to flick on to Rooney, who didn't have the legs most of the time because he'd had to fall back so deep.

edit: Thought Johnson and Terry did pretty well for most part, shame we couldn't offer anything going forward.
Don't really know what was up with Young in this tournament, coming into it he was arguably one of our most in-form players.

He did a couple of bad passes but mostly he won flick ons or just chested the ball down and did more to win it than either welbeck or rooney had in the 60 mins prior.

Yep hence my I dunno what game he was watching, He played better than the majority of our forward players. Carroll should have started to be honest. It would have been effective if the other players weren't playing like they had something stuck up their bums & actually tried to get into space.

Wage's mean **** all. There's a lot of bang average players earning more than they should in the PL and it's been that way for the best part of 20 years now. On the two defences though Pepe (creep he may be) is better than Terry and Lescott and Coentrao isn't far off Cole (can't remember who else makes up their back 4 but I'd wager they're not far off the likes of Johnson either).

As for midfield, player for player Gerrard is obviously better than Meireles but it's not as simple as that is it, the midfield is a unit and Portugals midfield unit is better than England's, likewise the attack, England's in this tournament was Young, Rooney, Welbeck and Milner, Portugals 3 of Ronaldo, Nani and Postiga ***** all over that despite the actual striker being worse than some Championship centre forwards.
