UEFA Euro 2012 - The Final - ** spoilers **

Euro 2008 - Avoid England, win the tournament

World Cup 2010 - Avoid England, win the tournament

Euro 2012 - Avoid England, win the tournament

Has there been a luckier team in football history?

:D

Won the sweeps at work - thank you very much! Nothing much prize money wise though but still nice to win :D

Glad they improved as Spain's penalties against Portugal was a long game - to win it so emphatically in normal time makes a change!

alba deserved his goal tonight, been offering a lot on the left for the whole tournemant without getting much out of it.

nice addition to the barca team.

Special celebrations have started:

Thought Hansen was going a bit OTT, waxing lyrical about how Spain played the best football the world has ever seen in the first half. Yes they were very good but he seemed to forget that they'd been under some periods of pressure and I didn't think the game was as one-sided (at that point) has he made out.

Anyone else hear Alan Shearer after the match saying the Spanish players have got "lots of sex" and then corrected himself to "lots of success"? :p

As for the "boring" tag I don't buy it myself, I think in England if you play more than 3 passes without moving the ball forwards the crowd gets impatient. Sometimes you can't win it seems - direct football eg. Stoke = boring, possession game e.g. Spain = boring. That said I think maybe the BBC overplayed it a bit I don't think THAT many people had them down as boring to begin with.

NOt really, Spain passed up great attacks to pass around in midfield, it had nothing to do with passing too much or playing to a game plan, they played "meh" football for much of the tournament.

Ultimately I still don't care who wins, I don't go to a film and hope the bad guys and the good guys don't attack each other just incase they lose and everyone goes home happy with a draw, does anyone else?

Football is ENTERTAINMENT. Passing side to side in midfield without going forwards IS boring, no one has said its bad football but it IS boring. When someone makes a run, and you CAN and are very capable of putting it over the top and maybe scoring a great goal, but you choose to pass sideways , then backwards, then sideways, then ignore another attacking pass, it is boring.

They were very decent in the final, but for long spells also didn't really attack, can't stand Iniesta getting so much praise, he fluffed almost every single attack he was involved in throughout the tournament, shoot or pass to someone in a better position, shoots and misses. Run with the ball into dead end or pass to someone in a better position, runs with the ball, finally has no option but to kick the ball into the box, didn't get the ball close to anyone with the massive majority of his final ball's. He was in large part rubbish, passing sideways under no pressure to people in space, sure, easy.

Fabregas is the polar opposite, he took his chances when it was the best option, scored a couple goals and when he felt passing was the better option set others up, and it was that which led to the goal, Iniesta would have shot and Fabregas found the better option, drew Buffon out of his goal and put in an inch perfect, perfect height, perfect weight, perfect position ball for Silva to tap into a now empty net.

Alba was great, not sure most other players were really tested, I hate that Torres gets the golden boot, because he was largely brought on in dead games where his pace against tired legs made it easy, or, you know, Ireland, he didn't play well enough to deserve it in the slightest and its a travesty that Llorente after such a good season didn't even get a chance.

Italy, were flattered by Germany, massively, and were rubbish tonight. Pirlo was under pressure, Fabregas frequently did a great job holding him up but ultimately it was his passing and his choices that made him bad tonight, he just had a bad game. He ignored plenty of great passes, and held onto the ball many times when he didn't need to at all. Balotelli had a right to be miffed, get to a final and no one gives you the ball or does anything in the final third.

Even though Italy were theoretically in it, and had some possession in good spaces, the football was at a completely different level throughout. Stoke would get a few chances against Spain, that's how football goes, Italy were never for a second a team that looked capable of winning. Spain were good, they've been better and they've played better playing much better opposition. Spain only had to watch the German game and see that as long as the CB's didn't push all the way to the half way line for no reason, Italy would get smeg all chances, and that was Italy's only chance gone.

Also thought that was quite funny and blatantly obvious.

Brilliant Final, brilliant end to a fantastic competition :)

Very much enjoyed that.

Despite the absolutely terrible commentary from Lawro.

I want to congratulate them on their brilliant win and lovely football, but it's hard when some of their fans celebrate by coming to the Gibraltar frontier to smash windscreens on Gibraltar registered cars, with people inside them.
