UEFA Euro 2016 - Group Stage TV Guide/Schedule/Info/ - Tournament Chat

It's a shame for France that Benzema isn't in the squad. Giroud and Gignac are not quite as good, shall we say. Hopefully Griezmann will start up front instead.

is Benzema that good, really?

He was decent for RM in 15-16 but in the 2 or 3 seasons before that he has been distinctly average (and that's probably being generous)

People rave about his movement etc etc etc, but really is that any good if he isn't actually putting the chances away?

Personally I would say Giroud and Benzema are roughly of the same quality (I seem to recall Giroud being about similar in 14-15 for Arsenal as Benzema was for RM in the season just gone (given the surrounding talent)

Griezmann imo is definitely world class but much more of a wide player like Reus for Germany /BD but will normally get as many goals / season as majority of main (central) strikers

Wilshere over Drinkwater is just crazy, Wilshere might have done well in qualifying but you can't go from having a whole season out to playing at international level...

I find it horrible that Antonio wasn't included in the squad, from what I've seen of him this season he's been great and would be just the type of player we need.

I'm happy Milner is there though, he has done a great job at Liverpool this season despite where they have finished in the league. Good at crosses yes, good at corners? Hell no.

International level is no different to premier league, club football is a higher level than international, the quality is higher, the competition is tougher.

Wilshere was pretty much Arsenal's best player in the games he started or came on as sub, which is standard for him. When he's fit he's one of the best players for Arsenal and one of the best in the league. The other thing he's consistently done is when played he plays near his best instantly, and he's come back from a lot of injuries, he might not play for long before another injury but he's someone who can come back playing at the top of his game right up till he's out for the next 8 months.

Drinkwater's starts really mean nothing, I genuinely like him but Kante makes that midfield and Drinkwater in a different system didn't seem nearly as comfortable or effective, ultimately he's just not as good as Wilshere and I'd take Wilshere over Drinkwater easily. Now if Wilshere had come back in terrible form that would be a different situation but he looked great for Arsenal and there is no reason to believe he can't continue to play at that level.... again right up till he gets injured again.

Not sure how you can comment on Wilshere's "form" with the amount of game time he's had since returning from injury.

Benzema isn't in the Suarez/Lewandowski/Aguero bracket imo but he's better than Giroud in every way, and significantly better in terms of his movement, passing, hold up play etc. And of course that matters: if Giroud isn't scoring he's a useless lump; Benzema isn't. I can't imagine there are many Arsenal fans (or French) who would regard Giroud to Benzema as a sidegrade.

Everything that he said in regards to form was based on the caveat that he bounces back quickly from injury, instantly, which is shown in his 1 start and sub appearance. Whether you agree or not, it's absolutely relevant to the discussion behind taking Wilshere.

So pretty much like what his Euro's will be like, one start then injured again :p

I don't see your point. Form is something that is best measured over a long period of games. Having one or two good games then being injured for the rest of the season isn't enough of a track record to judge someone's form on. Taking Wilshere is a massive gamble that is not really worth taking when you consider the limited squad size and the availability of other players (like Drinkwater) who are in decent form to fill that spot.

Not arguing if it's a gamble. But it true wilshere plays well when he's on the pitch, and it doesn't say he'll get injured after 2 games, that's your guess based on nothing. He usually plays a while then gets crocked for 8 month.

How come the debate isn't why Henderson is going instead of Drinkwater?

Does anyone have aink to an ical I can add to my Google Calendar?

I've got the one from Sky Sports at the moment but it doesn't include what channel matches are on.
