UEFA EURO 2016 Qualifiers ** spoilers ** [3rd - 8th September 2015]

He's scored 50 goals that you can't deny which is a great personal achievement.

You also can't deny 3 world cups - 1 tap in. Needs to do the business in June/July 2016 or 2018 not just against Lithuania or Andorra in October.

Crouch would've eventually beat that record if we'd kept picking him to play against San Marino and the likes in friendlies/qualification, his goal scoring record for England was probably better than Rooney's. He's not the type of player the FA want as England's best ever though is he?

He's also garbage.

Why does it matter? Every player plays against minnows Inc Charlton himself.

Because the massive amount of Rooney Bum loving going on because he scored a bunch of goals against complete nobodies is absolutely nauseating and he's nowhere near the best we've ever had.

Who is England's best ever striker?

What/who counts as decent?

Go on.

Call it ranked top 20 at the time we played them and you're probably looking at a handful of games against Croatia and Switzerland. He's never stepped up and done the business against the Germany's, France's or Italy's of this world, though I'll be more lenient with teams like Brazil as we've rarely played them outside of friendlies

There's no denying it's easier now than before with the standard of sides you face in qualifiers but even if you factor that all in, by the time he's retired he's still going to have gone on to bettered the record.

Well done Rooney! You can't argue with that record.

Amazing to think how many he would be on if he wasn't a shadow of his younger self.

He got into the team early and was always picked whether he scored or not, even when he went a year without a goal. Put a guy in front of ten very good players for twelve years and he gets fifty goals. Hardly a legend, he could only score against San Marino with a charity penalty.

Looking at the teams he has scored against and the situations it's hardly legendary talk. I wouldn't even start the match with him.

Just seen the penalty lol two penalties that shouldn't have even happened.

Nice answer.

How about name three then as it is so hard to pick one.

Shearer, Owen and Lineker as three off the top of my head, I'd rate them all as better than Rooney even if they didn't net hatfuls against Macedonia and Estonia.

Croatia and Switzerland are in the top 20... France aren't so... Ok

I'd personally take Linekar and Shearer over Rooney, but he'd not be too far off that.

Who else have we had in the last 25 years?

Did Rooney call England a continent instead of a country? I can't have been the only one who heard that.
