I think the problem with England is too many of them are used to playing alongside world class players in the Premier League, but the issue is, these world class players that add flare and finnesee aren't often English! So when England play, they are often waiting for someone else to do the clinical run/pass/shot.

I don't believe this at all. They are playing alongside world class players at club level and deserve to be there. Club level is much higher than international football. Gilmore doesn't even get a game at Chelsea, Wales midfielder cannot get a start at Luton, to the point my Luton supporting friends barely knew anything about the kid despite going to the games. Bale can barely get a kick at Spurs. In the last 3rd England are full of world class players. Foden is playing at City because he deserves to be there, same with Mount at Chelsea and Grealish will make the step up. The minute they are not good enough they will be gone. England have more than enough quality in the final third, the trouble is what's behind them.

The defenders are about the worst bunch I've seen at International level for England, an area we used to be so consistently strong. The keeper is a dick. What I'd give for a half decent fit CM or two to play with the best attacking players I've ever seen for England.

3 shots on target over 180 mins. Best attacking players?

Whilst the England teams from 1996 to 2006 didnt succeed, they had better players. Just checking the 2010 squad, a better bunch of players imo.

I'd say we had zero expectations in 2018 with good reason.

Our front 4 have scored 67 goals and over 40 assists this season between them so I certainly won't blame the players, this is a 100% manager failure in not setting the team up and using the right tactics to get the best out of the players.

He drops in form players and replaces them with out of form players, sets up defensively for a game in which the opposition will sit back and defend themselves, doesn't want players on the ball taking risks and really poor use of subs.

I'd imagine some of the players are starting to lose faith in the manager, Kane already looks like he has.

I don't know the dynamics of other nations national squads but I have always thought that ours seem to prepare for tournaments very very poorly.
We have some training and some friendly spread out and maybe a few weeks before the event but that's not enough to become a team that predict each others movement like a Premier league squad would.

Sometimes I feel like these guys don't want to play well together because of club allegiance.

Half the players picked for the pre tournament friendlys this time round wasn't even in the euros squad.

The PL is a double-edged sword, it cripples England at a national level.

England lacks the passionate nutters the other big teams have.

.

Any players selected for England will have good stats. That doesn't make them better than previous generations.

Attacking wise this team is not better than before.

It absolutely is. Kane, Foden, Grealish, Kane, Rashford, Sterling and Sancho are different league compared to the 2010 team that only beat slovenia and could mange a 0-0 against Algeria. Even when Rooney was playing this forum would tell you he was holding the team back. Go back to the threads when Sterling was being left out at the expense of Rooney and the frothing at the gash this forum did.

There's no way you would take, Rooney, Heskey, Dafoe and Crouch over these kids.

I don't agree with that at all, look at the first game for instance against Croatia where it was 28c and this was blamed for England's slow play yet currently watching Germany v Portugal in 30c + and both teams are sprinting around the pitch.

The we don't have good enough players argument might have washed a few years ago but over the last few years we've had some exellent young players come though that have won junior tournaments and various ages u17, u19 etc and now they have progressed into the senior team and playing at some of europes top clubs.

Then we have a manager who did 3 years at Middlesbrough culminating in relegation as his only previous top level management experience before taking the England job.

Finally got back to a place with mobile signal. After a day to reflect I still think my initial reaction and prediction were both on the money. Southgate is overrated and tactically inept, Kane goes missing when it counts and we are simply not as good as we think we are or ought to be based on the people available.

Also is it just me or is this another example of England losing a game when it's shown on ITV? Can we please just get them all shown on the bbc

It’s a British mentality thing,

They only wanna bust there guts out for there clubs who pay there ridiculous wages but when its on the international stage, they couldn’t give a **** really.
