So, Sterling has played more minutes than Foden?

I don’t know what your point is but you’re wrong. Sterling was hardly getting any games this half of the season?

When Sterling has been in form, one of his strongest attributes was fitness.

Anyway, Foden needs resting and Sterling doesn’t. Why? I don’t know, ask the England coaches.

He’s not being rested, he’s on a booking so isn’t being risked.

Why drop their best CDM

We've already qualified for the next round, why take the risk? Let's give another player a chance to show what they've got going forwards to the next stage?

I'm talking about the Euro's, which is what this thread is about, not Premier League? Sterling has played more minutes than Foden, how is that wrong?, you bang on about rotation.

The minutes played in the euros are a drop in the ocean of minutes played in the unusually busy season that came straight before this tournament. Sterling hasn’t played more minutes than Foden in recent months.

Lastly game time, while an important consideration, is not the only factor which dictate whether a player needs resting.

If you want to be the best you got to beat the best. It is simply bottle job culture to want an "easy" route.
This. There's no difference between being beaten by Germany in the final or being beaten by Germany in the semi-final or being beaten by Germany in the first knockout round.

Nobody actually cares about 2nd/3rd place. Only the winners are remembered.

And nobody gets to win a tournament like this by beating Turkey, Finland, Russia and then Poland in the final :p Somewhere along the line you have to beat one of the big boys.

Foden played 3.374 last season, Sterling 3.703.

I don’t disagree. I still don’t understand your point either?

Most of Sterling’s minutes came in the first half of the season. Most of Foden’s minutes came in the second half of the season.

Do you understand how that means Foden has played more minutes than Sterling in recent months? If you don’t then I’m done tbh.

Exactly Turkey got 3rd place in 2002 as some sort of magical achievement. Germany got spanked in the final by Brazil. Our quarter final against Brazil was the real final of that years world cup. Just like the semi final against Germany was the real final of Euro 96. Likewise the semi final between Belgium and France 18 was the true final.

We got to the Semi finals yes but got beaten by Croatia and Belgium twice. It was a total farce albeit I enjoyed it.

This is why the whole competition needs redesigning. Instead of qualifying for a world cup or Euro. There should be a league and at the end. The top 8 teams go head to head in the summer. With the top 4 in a playoff situation or something.

Also how things currently stand the Euro's at present I would argue is harder to win as the caliber of teams is far higher than in the world cup as you get some proper dross from some areas yet the world cup is meant to be the pinnacle.

Having only the best teams qualify for the world and Euro's would be far better imo.

You could even have a Europa League version of the finals for the lesser nations.
