UEFA Under-21s European Championship

Ended up not watching all of it since the Grand Prix restarted, Kyle Walker was easily the stand out player.

He's a much better player than Cleverly but it looked like Pearce wanted somebody tucked in on the right supporting the midfield.

Surprised you lot didn't put a bid in for him this summer (still time :p) nor United put an offer in for him.

Could well turn out to be a much better wide player then Downing.

Nice to see the up coming generation of English defenders are skilled in the art of the Carra-Hoof.

Was hilarious in the first half, commentators bigging up our 'ballplaying centrehalves', which basically amounted to Jones taking two touches before launching it instead of one.

Bit baffled as to why Walcott isn't in the England squad?

Yeah but Wenger got his dossiers out for Wilshere saying he's played 362 games this season so shouldn't take part, don't remember hearing anything about Walcott.

Quite embarrassing for England really, you've got players like Wilshire and Carroll neither of which have ever been to an international tournament before with only a handful of senior appearances between them yet neither could be arsed to turn out for this tournament yet Spain have world cup winners and regulars in the senior side desperate to appear :o

'cause other Countries actually put much more time, effort and focus in to these things, they see their youth team as very much the next National side and it's given much better media coverage and more respect.

Same with certain countries and the Olympic football, it's massive in South America.

'Tired' though ain't they. Don't want to be feeling rubbish for the start of the new season remember. :D

Nice to see so man utd players in this game. What was theree, 5? Welbeck, Da Gae, Cleverly, Smalling, Jones... and good to see Welbeck score.

Didn't get to see much of Da Gae though.

Wish England u21 had a stronger side, I hate the influence managers have on players now. Too tired my ass, you get paid up the ass to run about for christ sake!

Except Carroll's not allowed to kick a ball yet.. according to our med team anyway, he might of had a chance for the final had we got that far.

Dont believe him? well its no difference then the 'suspicious' circumstances that various United players always end up pulling out of the senior squad when it suits Fergie through a season ;)

I don't see a problem with Wilshere not going, he's already played too many games than what he really should have at his age (IMO, of course). Can't see any reason why Walcott couldn't be available for selection though.

I'd argue that Fergie (to my recollection) has never stopped a player playing in a major competition, in fact judging by his past comments I'm sure he's more than happy that Cleverly, Welbeck & Smalling have all been selected.

Missing a major tournament is a big difference to missing a few easily qualifiers here and there.

I'm of the opinion that Carroll shouldnt be there anyway as he isnt under 21. I know the rules allow it but I just think its daft.

True but the experience he would have gained would have been valuable for both club and country IMO, if he's injured though then fair enough I didn't know that

He missed our last two games with a knee/foot/ankle/leg :p injury, obtained when he kicked the floor (bloody idiot ..) accidentally and then jumped and fell funny on the same leg/knee, the game previous to the ones he missed.

Kelly is another youngster who would have been called up but couldn't due to injury.

Yeah I know..its just a personal annoyance of mine. Take the spanish under 21 team, of the 23 man squad, 13 are over 21 (4 of them are 23). That means that less than 50% of their under 21 team is actually under 21. Kind of daft, but within the rules :D
