UK holidays

We generally holiday in the UK. Neither Mrs. Feek or I are bothered about sitting around a pool or on the beach and we're not sun worshippers. We've been to a fully inclusive resort in Norfolk a few times and in a couple of weeks we're going to another one run by the same company in Essex. There's plenty for us to do, the food is excellent, the included drinks are all good, branded, well known ones and the evening entertainment is superb. Later in the year, we'll have a week in the Channel Islands.

We have simple tastes.
I travel abroad and don’t sit at poolside or beach and sunbathe all day.

I explore. Enjoy the local cuisine and cultures.

Anyone who goes abroad to sit by pool or beach all day. May as well stay at home, whack heating to 30c and get a spray tan. It will be cheaper to do the latter

Scotland for me, as far away from people as possible :), love the mountains.

Mid Wales, great for outdoor stuff and it looks stunning.

Very possible will be where we move next (possibly finally) absolutely beautiful and not many people!

Don't blame you, we're thinking the same, houses are pretty cheap too, just unfortunate the internet is awful in a lot of it :/

But... Does that mean we would then need to go on holiday to Birmingham?!

I already live where I'd like to go on holiday to which makes that nice and easy. Maybe somewhere in Scotland, as I am yet to go. Somewhere where I am unlikely to encounter a fight I guess.

Hard pass!

My sister loves Birmingham. Not sure why! But her and her partner chose to live there!

ideally my holiday would be right at the start of the Camel trail so i can cycle to the coast traffic free.

Full on rural with no passing traffic with access straight on to the moors and tors without taking my car

20 mins to Port Isacc, trebarwith strand ,Tintagel or Polzeath

Well isn't that just super duper as this is where i holiday every day ha ha
True tbh as an ex tourist i treat my spare time as a holiday, something many Cornish don't do but i have experienced west Yorkshire so i see the contrast

Apart from here I like the Yorkshire coast ,Northumberland, Anglesey (eldest did uni in Wales)
A remote Scottish west coast island would appeal to me

I did my time in brum, Edgbaston around 99/00 - first place I ever got mugged, then moved up to West Bromwich not far from the motorway, had my 2nd mugging there at knifepoint and also witnessed my first stabbing - ah, the memories :D

when i think about it i have always spent my time on the coast even living in Heckmondwike it was only 1.5 hrs to the coast, on a weekend we would use the haven facility's for free (pretty skanky but true) primrose valley and blue dolphin ,no day passes or id needed back then, other people we knew would just head down the white rose and buy unneeded stuff on a weekend

That's what i do tbh but Leeds area in my case, catch up with family and bulk buy my curry stuff, most of us at work are from up country

Lake District is amazing, well worth a visit.

But it’s often cheaper to go abroad.

Edit - already mentioned in the thread in an itemised fashion!

I love the lakes, but damn it's expensive. A decent camp ground cost us £45 a night last year, with only basic amenities available.

A reasonable hotel is £140+. For 5 days, food and hotel it's upwards of £1000+ for two easily.

Can go to Lisbon or somewhere for the same.

All my holidays in the UK, involve a tent in the hills now but that isn't for everyone. Much cheaper though!

We quite like Norfolk, Yarmouth is great for the little ones, but of a poo hole, but it is fun in the height of summer.

But there is loads around the Norfolk area to see.

This year however we're off to the new forest for a change, got the bikes and bike racks sorted, looking forward to something a bit different this year.

We wanted to go abroad and had a lovely place to Spain booked but then COVID happened so it all went a bit wrong. Ever since going abroad just hasn't seemed worth it.

If you're paying to camp in the lakes, you're doing it wrong :p

(granted, if you're with kids then making them hike 20 miles before pitching up is maybe out of the question :p)

I don't normally, usually in my one man tent but we fancied a few beers and a trip to town that weekend.

All my holidays are spent up a hill or in a hammock :)
