Don't get me wrong, I don't mind glamping, but with 2 young kids full on camping and roughing it is not my idea of fun.

If it was just me, it would be less of an issue.

Where I go there is no mediocre cooking or food, and I've will never go to an all inclusive or a resort ever ever ever. Except maybe once I decide to do a cruise. And sleeping on a bed is far more agreeable :p

Agree

Camping with my boy was a nightmare and was a struggle for the week we were away, wouldn't go to sleep of an evening cos of the light and the noises from around, and was up at crack of dawn due to the light and birds singing, had very little sleep the whole week.

So we've always done static caravans since ( only couple of years).

We're waiting for the whole COVID thing and the knock on effect sorting itself out before going abroad again.

I know COVID doesn't seem to exist anymore, but last year due to staff issues and whatever travelling for holidays abroad was a nightmare with long delays and sudden cancellation of flights etc. Thought we'd sit this year out and look at going abroad next year. Although a week in UK at a nice holiday site seems to be quite a bit cheaper than abroad still.

Going to London next week.

staying near tower bridge and planning visit to sky garden, wembley tour, parliament tour and possibly tower of London. Anyone advice best way to see these or recommend anything else close by

Museums, I really enjoyed the natural history museum, London has quite good museums, just pick what interests you.

We also really enjoyed Kensington Palace, and walking in the many lovely parks around central London. Everything is close by if you use the tube, which is pretty easy to use and not bad value for money due to the daily limit, especially if you use it public transport for getting around.

Mercato in Mayfair is pretty cool to visit, great architecture and food.

I didn't ever appreciate how great the UK can be for a small break or a holiday until I became an expat.

I suppose it was one of those things (when we lived there) where I always felt that I had time to see it or do it....but ultimately never did because work or life just got in the way.

We flyover to Orlando every couple of years for a five to six week holiday and always drop off back home to bring my mother over with us........what used to a one day layover has become a deliberate one to two week vacation before THE vacation.

Kicking myself now that when it was on our doorstep....we never did it.....

Going to Cornwall camping in few weeks. And just tenting is 30 a night.

Crazy really for staying on a patch of grass.
Yes you get showers, but it's really getting to the point where the only reason to camp is a better location.

The risk of annoying kids at night is there though.

One thing I like about Cornwall, there's enough for me to do come rain or shine. If it rains it often means the sea is more wavy for board sports

Before moving here we did a seasonal pitch in st Agnes ,it was £500 a year but could leave the caravan(cost £750 and it was great )on the pitch, we were in the overflow field as well so it was just us out of main season.
I did my bodyboarding down on chapel Porth and Porthtowan.
I am going to do a few trips myself and just sleep in the roomster but I am single

Ooh. While you are here, any good body boarding beaches you know of?

Perranporth is my favourite (and still holds my best/scariest memory out on the waves!).
Is this still the best/one of the best ones?

Bit of a spontaneous decision to book a short break in Northumberland, end of October. Well appointed cottage within the national park and within the gold standard dark sky area for some star gazing.

General area looks lovely.

Next door also is good Holywell bay and it's a good coast walk across to perranporth past the old army camp.
Also chapel Porth in st Agnes and Porthtowan are all great down there.
If the surf is maxed out onshore then Newquay is great as Towan gives lots of shelter sometimes giving big clean scary near shore break but in storms in winter it's a great option.
Same with trevuance cove in st Aggie again sheltered but known for localism.
Up by me polzeath works on all tides but quite gently shelving so dosnt shore dump as much but can be a long paddle out back past the white water

But poly joke Newquay is my no 1 for just a great beach , so many mini coves and nooks for privacy, seals to watch, very tidal dependent but it's awesome
Great walk to crantock that's also great

Not sure I'd rather be in mallorca than the lake district myself!

I'm a fan of short breaks. But to interesting places where you get to see/do stuff you can't in the UK.

Somewhere like Barcelona.. Absolutely. But mallorca? No real interest from me there.

Holidays for me are about adventure. Or "new", "different".
Can easily go to a hot beach in the UK. And that's why beach am inclusive holidays in the med have no appeal.

When I go on a family holiday to mallorca I always hire a bike and head inland.

It's a different mallorca.
