UK Kindle and E-Books...

Nah I've played with one in the flesh and the PRS-300/505 is too small and the PRS-600 has the horrid reflective touch screen.

The 300 has a 5" screen. the 505 has a 6" screen - same size as the 600.

I've a BeBook Mini (5" screen). Iniatially I though I had made a mistake and thought the screen was too small. Now after a week of reading from it I've got used to it and I wouldn't change it for a larger device.

so these use any pdf or do they have to downloaded with drm or whatever?

Any PDF now with latest update I think.

I have a Kindle and coupled with a US addressed Amazon account for cheap / free books and synced up with Kindle for iPhone its infinitely better than old style books.

Just some pics of my BeBook Mini in it's Stylz cover.

Forgot to include something for scale, but the pockets with the tri-fold open are for SD cards and credit cards.

Now that is a nice price, especially as it does away with the 3g which was a little bit of a gimmick, and a wi-fi connection makes more sense (if you're near enough to a PC/laptop to buy a book you're probably near a wi-fi access point as well).

[edit]
The 3g is certainly a battery killer - 1 month battery with wireless off, 3 weeks with wireless on non 3g, 10 days wireless on 3g

used to read e-books on my palm pda... never had a problem with eye-ache, and I spend 12+ hours per day on a computer anyway.

Only 2 problems with e-readers:
Books don't need batteries.
You can't get e-books for free from a library (so I'm a cheapskate, what's it to you?).

I might pick up one for my mum.

She liked the idea last year when I brought it up, but this year the price is lower so it's great success all round! :)

whats the web browsing like on the kindle?

It's experimental and I imagine it won't be good.
No touchscreen so it will require button pushing to navigate to the link you want.

Also numeric entry is bad. You have to go to a symbol screen and then use the cursor pad (5 way controller) to select the digit from a grid of numbers and symbols.

I have a KDXG and I've not even contemplated trying web access on it.

Does it mean 50% better contrast than the previous generation Kindle? That sounds a big improvement. And 3500 books! Feel like I should have waited a month and got this one.
