So the UK Kindle has been announced and available this month finally.
I will not be getting one as I have the Sony 600 with the touch screen.
I read all my books electronically now and will never look back. Anyone else into ebooks now? Looking like its gonna be the big xmas item.
If anyone thinks its just like reading on the latop think again. The screens have no refresh rate or backlight which means zero headaches and eye strain. Battery need charging once every couple of weeks as well
I took mine on holiday and read Anthony Beevors Stalingrad at 500 pages and it didnt drop one bar of battery. Just reading the lost symbol now.
Let the Ebook revolution begin.
I like physical books, but I've long since run out of room for buying as many as i'd like
I like physical books, but I've long since run out of room for buying as many as i'd like (these days I tend to only buy the new books from favourite authors - Iain M Banks, Peter Hamilton, Terry Pratchett etc)
The reader has proven very handy in terms of space saved, and it's let me try loads of books by new authors cheap (and some old ones) - I worked out so far this year i've read about 53 books on it
I used to read lots of e-books but recently places like Fictionwise and eReader have had to restict purchases depending on your geographic location. Wanted to buy the new Dan Brown book, $5 on eReader but not permitted to buy it (it's gone up now but Fictionwise have it for $17 with 100% rebate). There was one UK site selling it, for £15! It costs less to buy it on paper at the supermarket. I see it's on the iPhone AppStore now, £14.95 total rip off.
Can you buy ebooks second hand on ebay? Can you sell them second hand on ebay? Can you buy them in second hand book shops?
Sorry, not interested.

People said the same about mp3's yet most people have now made the switch and it's still a new industry. Give it another 5-10 years and cd buyers will be the same as record buyers.
Same is happening with pc games and books although it will take a lot longer will go that way as well.
Same here - a great idea but having experienced SonicStage, I would never again touch anything from Sony because of their obsession with DRM & ignoring standardsI'm going to wait a few years. When I buy an e-book I want to own it completely, with the devices creators having no ability to remove content at will. I don't want to be tied into a single purchasing model, which probably means waiting for a open standardization initiative.
And most importantly NO DRM! I want to be able to back the stuff up on my own servers in case of issues!
They're using an open standard (epub) and I use Adobe Digital Editions to manage my library and transfer books. Sony is made up of lots of different groups internally, they aren't all the same.Same here - a great idea but having experienced SonicStage, I would never again touch anything from Sony because of their obsession with DRM & ignoring standards
I have to say, I do not understand the idea of ebook readers. You pay £150+, which could have been used to buy A LOT of books, to then be able to pay more for a (DRM laced) digital copy of a book than the paperback copy costs. This, to me, seems like madness..
