I have doubts about stronger, their military seems to be absolute trash and only gets away with steamrollering vastly inferior forces.

They've exposed themselves this time with gigantic miscalculation.

The DNR released some new casualty numbers and going by the Kremlin's idea of maths I think both republics might have lost the majority of their skilled troops or at least a whole load of barely capable conscripts. Though I will caveat that it could very well be an accurate estimate if they've mostly just kept to defensive actions.

Now it could just make them even more stridently pro-Russian, but some of them must surely be questioning if it was really worth it and there's potential that the Russian forces may end up losing support in both regions.

Putin is a warmonger, if he takes Ukraine he is able to double the size of his army overnight, now he can take on Poland and the Baltics. Once he has all the baltics, Ukraine and Poland he would have several millions of soldiers at his command and now he can take on Germany, UK and France.

you see where this is going? Putin's own ex-advisors have said this man will not stop until he loses on the battlefield so you either pay someone to fight for you or you go fight yourself there is no way you can sit it out, give him what he wants and then expect the UK to by safe 10 years from now your children will be living under threat of bombs

I have a very hard time believing that in this day and age conquering a country means you command its army, and even if you did the will to fight for you would be basically 0, Russia has captured at least 1000 Ukrainian soldiers are they currently fighting for Russia? I think not.

An invader would increase domestic support and perhaps able to surge an army in size, but they would have negligible training.

Then we come to the question of financing the war, which Russia would be unable to do.

Russian military has been proven to be a big joke. Do we know if their nukes even work

To use a Dirty Harry quote, "You've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' " :)

The only way either the Russians or their foes will know for sure is if someone punches the big red button, or whatever they do to unleash one.

So, how keen are you to know if they work or not?

Don't underestimate the far right. There are a lot of under the counter racists out there who come out to play when the ballots are secret..

Just look at America, Trump is a Putin fanatic and half of America is with him all the way. Trump shouts build a wall and the hate is no longer needed to be hidden. The presedential candidate is a racist so why hide it anymore.

With le pen and God forbid trump in power then Nato is *****d

Le Pen is in a run off, France can go either way.

Trumo if he gets to run is almost a sure thing.

Are you arguing against secret ballots here?

I'd hope and expect le Pen to struggle in the runoff.

But that's how it works, recruit ethnic minorities + vodka. Don't have to pay for them if they die and easier to control ethnic minorities where all the men of fighting age are dead. It's a win win. Declare war and Russia can force more ethnic minorities into war.

I don't know why you laughing, for Russia to declare this as a war over a 'special military operation' is not minor change in language. By declaring a war against Ukraine it allows Russia to call a draft and make all men of fighting age available for to go and fight in Ukraine and transition it's economy and industrial centers into supporting the countries war effort. It would also give Russia an excuse to bomb NATO targets inside NATO territories if there were weapons being transferred to Ukraine (which we know there is). One other major change it would mean any Russian ships docked in neutral countries would have to be sized and help until the war ends, it's not a small step by any means even if Russia/Ukraine are already technically at war.

Definitely. This is an ominous thing - to escalate and continue to justify even more actions .

Whilst true I don't think Russia has anywhere near the industrial capacity it used to have when it begun moving towards more residential and commercial developments from the 80's onwards and they can barely run logistics for what they have let alone for a full mobilisation, so I'm of the belief that it'd likely make it harder for them not easier.

Honestly I think the main idea behind it would be the possibility to enact martial law more than anything else.
