Since the US usually use 8 M777 in an artillery unit and there are 18 'officially' acknowledged batteries I wonder if that implies Ukraine operate at 3 or 9? Probably not relevant tbh, either way 50 trainers surely ought to mean far more batteries are heading into Ukraine.

Would also be interesting to see if they'll also get a complement of Excalibur's to throw at the comparatively shorter range Russian batteries.

On a minor chord, Wimbledon has banned Russian and Belarusian players from competing this year.
In the 80’s we had a little war with Argentina. Even though our lands had been invaded we had a couple of footballers from Argentina who we were able to understand weren’t part of a military Junta. They were just sportsmen. We understood that as weren’t idiots.
Collective punishment wasn’t a thing.
Thankfully we’ve regressed from that point and everyone is fair game. Next time some terrorist **** blows up a pop concert… we were all in it together. Fair game.
Collective responsibility rocks.

Yeah, I'm thinking this banning of people who have no involvement in the decisions of their government is a bit daft.

Russia has tried to use sports to soften their government's image for years so I think it's entirely appropriate.

Indeed. Most individual sportspeople in any county have received years, probably decades, of backing from their country. There's only a handful of sports big enough to pay their own way.

Also continuing to allow Russians to compete like normal would seem to support Russian propaganda that everything is rosy and good with their overseas policies.

We can't control what the Russian government tells its people but we can cut Russia off from the rest of the world to some degree and harm the governments image.

Of course I still feel bad for the millions of Russians that have no sympathy for their government or this genocidal war, but these organisations (+advertisers/sponsors) would rather deal with the smaller issue of blocking one state rather than have the whole competition implode because it gets boycotted by nearly everyone else.

Anyway, it might be the case that PzH 2000's could be heading to Ukraine... :o I hope we get to see the result of a 5 round burst from one of them or multiple. Though maybe it's actually FH-70's as the Netherlands can't really afford to send their limited self-propelled equipment.

Self=propelled arty is exactly what Ukraine needs for the type of war they're fighting. Pretty sure I read somewhere that we were sending them some of our old, but still bloody effective, AS90s too.

What a find, $200m worth of equipment

https://www.ukrinform.net/rubric-at...-ammunition-worth-200m-in-kharkiv-region.html

- 60 tank engines
- Various spare part of armoured vehicles
- 26 air to air missiles

Apparently this was equipment that was stolen Russia at the start of the war in co-operation with Ukrainian collaborators. The plan was once Russian has taken Karkiv they could use the repair facilities around the city to mend all of the broken down russian vehicles and use Karkiv a shipment base for a deeper attack in Ukraine (according to SBU's own twitter account). I would link it but the post is all in cyrillic so I have to get my partner can read it to me.
